ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The swimming and diving teams from Skidmore College exhibited a remarkable performance on Saturday during the second and third sessions of the Don Richards Invitational at RIT, featuring a school record set by Gretchen Gwitt in the 100-yard backstroke along with seven individual victories from five Thoroughbreds.
 
Gwitt’s time of 59.31 seconds shattered the former eight-year-old school record (held by Erin Donovan – 2016), leading a day filled with outstanding results overall.
 
Alongside the record, Skidmore finished with individual wins by Ginny Hunt (400-yard individual medley/200-yard backstroke), Ryan Delfico (400-yard individual medley), Gwitt (100-yard fly), Nicolas Sodi (100-yard backstroke/200-yard backstroke), and Sabrina Reed (1650-yard freestyle). The Thoroughbreds achieved a remarkable total of 30 top-five finishes.
 
Skidmore secured second place in both men’s and women’s categories with scores of 643 and 771, respectively. The host RIT topped the standings with both its squads eclipsing the 1,000-point mark.
 
WOMEN’S EVENTS:

  • 200-Yard Medley Relay: The quartet of Hunt, Faye Mooney, Gwitt, and Emily Booth secured second place with a time of 1:51.32.
  • 400 IM: Hunt finished in first (4:52.51), while Katherine Manaresi came in sixth (5:05.86).
  • 100 Butterfly: Gwitt triumphed with a time of 57.85, followed by Lydia Walker in fifth (1:02.23) and Emily Booth in eighth (1:03.43).
  • 200 Freestyle: Kelly Hsu took second place (1:57.45), with Reed in fourth (2:00.48), MK Booth in 10th (2:04.90), and Julianna Kuznar in 16th (2:07.27).
  • 100 Breaststroke: Mooney took second (1:08.02), with Manaresi in 11th (1:12.74), Holly Staats in 12th (1:12.85), and Mariama Dabo in 15th (1:14.70).
  • 100 Backstroke: Gwitt’s record-setting swim landed her in second place (59.31), with Jae Mason finishing third (1:01.31), Hunt fourth (1:01.80), Ella Palmet in 13th (1:04.86), Walker in 15th (1:05.47), while Kuznar and Chloe Kim tied for 16th (1:05.54).
  • 1650 Freestyle: Reed excelled winning the race by over 30 seconds (18:02.24), with MK Booth in sixth (19:04.17) and Sarah Miller in ninth (19:23.20).
  • 200 Backstroke: Hunt clinched first place (2:13.03), Mason came third (2:13.42), and Kuznar finished eighth (2:19.13).
  • 100 Freestyle: Hsu grabbed third (54.50), followed closely by Mooney in fourth (54.60), with Walker in 12th (57.09), and Booth finishing 14th (57.55).
  • 200 Breaststroke: Manaresi came in sixth (2:36.09), Dabo finished 10th (2:42.01), Staats took 11th (2:42.10), Emma Bedard placed 12th (2:44.29), and Palmet concluded the event in 15th (2:48.37).
  • 200 Butterfly: Gwitt finished fourth (2:15.27) with Reed right behind in fifth (2:19.06).
  • 400 Freestyle Relay: The team comprised of Mooney, Walker, Booth, and Hsu landed in second (3:42.26).
  • 1-Meter Dive: Sophia May finished fifth with a score of 339.60.

 
MEN’S EVENTS:

  • 200-Yard Medley Relay: The team of Ryan Delfico, Liam Keating, Brendan Lu, and Owen Magoon secured second place (1:35.82).
  • 400 IM: Delfico clinched first place (4:12.52), winning by just under two seconds.
  • 100 Butterfly: Lu placed sixth (52.02), while Allen Huseinovic finished 15th (55.21) and Henry Brien came in 16th (56.07).
  • 200 Freestyle: Jonah Vaynshtok took eighth (1:46.89), followed by Keegan Scharoun in ninth (1:48.25) and Thomas Gaughan in 13th (1:49.37).
  • 100 Breaststroke: Keating secured third (57.66), with Magoon finishing ninth (1:01.53), Aidan Darling in 13th (1:02.38), Gavin Schiavi in 14th (1:03.90), and David Marcello in 15th (1:03.95).
  • 100 Backstroke: Sodi claimed first place (51.68), with Delfico taking second (52.55) and Scharoun finishing eighth (55.10).
  • 1650 Freestyle: Sodi came in fourth (17:06.17).
  • 200 Backstroke: Sodi won the event (1:55.21), Delfico took third (1:57.38), and Huseinovic finished fifth (1:59.95).
  • 100 Freestyle: Lu finished sixth (47.42), followed by Vaynshtok in 10th (48.65), while Magoon and Schiavi tied for 14th (49.35).
  • 200 Breaststroke: Keating placed fourth (2:10.26).
  • 200 Butterfly: Gaughan took seventh (1:59.59).
  • 400 Freestyle Relay: The team of Lu, Delfico, Magoon, and Sodi came in second (3:10.11).

 
UP NEXT:

  • Skidmore has concluded its competition for the semester. The Thoroughbreds will return to competition on January 18 following their annual training trip at Rensselaer’s Kumpf Invitational.
