The Hale County Extension Office and the Kids and Kin Program hosted a “How to talk to Kids about Human Trafficking” training on Monday.

It took place at the Hale County Extension Office, and administrators from Hale County attended, as well as other organizations like CAPS of Tuscaloosa.

The course featured keynote speakers explaining the signs of human trafficking, the different methods used by human traffickers, and ways to protect yourself from them.

“We wanted people to know what human trafficking actually is, because a lot of times when we watch movies on TV we associate human trafficking with someone getting pushed into a van. But human trafficking is actually the act of being coerced or forced to do certain things against your will,” said Carmen Coleman of the Family Guidance Center. “And so it’s not just a van that someone is taking a child into. It can also be family members or peers that are asking children to do things against their will.”

If you missed this training, another one will be offered on Dec. 19 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
