What a great video overall. The guy’s commentary is so wholesome and the seal pup looks like it’s just having a nice rest/scratch. There doesn’t seem to be a 100% correct answer on what to do if a seal hops on your boat, but Whale and Dolphin Conservation recommends giving them as much space as possible, keeping the engines off (if you’re in a motor boat), and enjoying a wild moment with nature.Harbor seal are frequently found in the waters around Washington state, including in Puget Sound. In fact they’re the most commonly seen sea mammal in the Salish Sea, frequently found throughout the region all year round. They’re common across the temperate coastal regions of Europe, North America, and Asia.

Videos of seals jumping on boats aren’t incredibly rare. In some cases, seals or sea lions will take refuge on boats to escape predatory orcas. Sometimes, especially with harbor seal, they’re just being playful. Sometimes they’re just taking a break. It’s not exactly clear why this harbor seal jumped on this man’s rowing shell in Tacoma, but it seems like he’s just being playful.
