MURRAY, Ky. – Marshall (4-1-0) dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to Murray State (3-3) on Sunday, conceding a late go-ahead goal after battling back to tie with 10 players.

The Herd erased a deficit in the 78th minute from Madison Townes, but Murray State’s winner in the 83rd minute proved decisive.

The Herd struck first in the 36th minute when Marcella Alves finished a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner, set up by Angel Fowler and Marta Garcia. Murray State answered quickly to send both teams into halftime tied at 1-1.

Marshall suffered a setback in the 51st minute when Alves received a red card, forcing the Herd to play shorthanded for the remainder of the match. Murray State capitalized soon after, taking a 2-1 lead amid a stretch of sustained offensive pressure.

With the Racers receiving a red card of their own, Marshall found a late spark in the 78th minute goal from Townes off the corner, but Murray State responded just five minutes later with the game-winning goal.

The Herd managed 13 shots—including six on target—while Emma Durand played the full match in goal and faced 20 shots.
