In Monday’s 9-8 win over Bridgewater-Raynham, the Sandwich baseball team almost fell victim to a massive comeback.
That rally fell short, and the win counts the same as any other.
The Blue Knights (9-5) have now won six consecutive games.
Sandwich went into the seventh inning with a 9-0 lead before Ty Creighton got the final out.
Joe Coughlan went five innings with no hits, no runs and nine strikeouts. Drew Peters and Matthew Taylor led the way with two hits apiece and three RBIs each.

Barnstable 5, New Bedford 0: The Red Hawks (4-11) won to end a three-game losing streak. Jake Kross earned the win on the mound, throwing six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Kross went 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Eric Stanley went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, one run scored, and five stolen bases. Braedon Costello went 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored, an RBI, and three stolen bases.
Cape Tech 20, Bristol Aggie 2: The Crusaders (4-7) won to halt a two-game losing streak. Nolan Baker pitched five innings with no earned runs allowed. He struck out 10, with three hits and four walks allowed. The Crusaders had 16 hits. Jackson Otis went 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored. Nolan Baker went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and a run. Will Mullin went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, two runs and three RBIs. Mike Shea went 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs, and two RBIs. Josh Cohan had two hits, a single and a double, two RBIs, and three runs.
Upper Cape 5, South Shore 0: The Rams (10-3) scored two runs in the first inning and never looked back. Nolan Roche started and went five innings, struck out seven, walked none, and allowed just four hits in the win. Patrick Acord had a hit and scored two runs. Mitchell Kirkland scored a run. Devyn Schulze went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Mattew Niemiec had a hit and and RBI. Jared Coates went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Case 5, Bourne 0: The Canalmen (3-12) fell to end a two-game winning streak. Bourne collected three hits by Ronan Kelly, James Moran-Rose, and Tucker Muldoon. Luca Finton pitched for 5.2 innings.
St. John Paul II 9, Martha’s Vineyard 0 : The Lions (15-0) beat the Vineyarders (6-8) to keep going its unbeaten season.
For the Lions, Brandon Gomes had a three-run home run to spark the offense. Logan Our, Brian Mancinelli, and Tyler Ross all had multi-hit games. Ross threw five shutout innings, allowed just three hits and a walk. Henry Roy struck out five in two innings pitched.
Sturgis 17, Rising Tide 5: The Storm (1-6) won their first game of the season on Senior Night for Ahmed Othmani, Chris Hereford, Matt DiAntonio, and Ryan Wiesner. Wiesner pitched four shutout innings. The other seniors all hit doubles in the game.
Norwell 5, Falmouth 4: The Clippers (10-5) lost to Norwell for the second time this season. The Clippers had six hits as a team. Jack Frostholm and Brody Palmer each went 2-for-4. Connor Oliver went 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Trey Cardoza allowed four runs on four hits with eight strikeouts.
Monomoy 11, Mashpee 3: The Sharks (8-4) beat the Falcons (6-9) for their second win in their last three games.
Softball
Bristol Aggie 23, Cape Tech 8: The Crusaders (1-8) lost to Bristol Aggie for the second time this season.
Upper Cape 12, South Shore 8: The Rams (9-5) swept the season series with South Shore. Rosie Neville had three hits and drove in two runs. Kaiya Thomas drove in two with a triple down the first-base line. Meadow Diede drove in two with two singles. Defensively, Amya Irving and Kenley Thomas were strong in the infield. Taysia Lopes got the win with seven strikeouts.
Barnstable 14, Martha’s Vineyard 2: The Red Hawks (3-12) beat the Vineyarders (2-10) to end a six-game losing streak. Pitcher Madison Flynn played well, striking out nine over five innings, and going 1-for-2 at the plate with two walks and an inside-the-park home run. Sara Ormston went 2-for-3 with a walk, a single, a triple, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Helena Farese went 1-for-1 with two walks, a single, and two runs scored. Jordyn Green continues to play well behind the plate defensively, and caught two Vineyarders stealing.
Case 22, Bourne 1: The Canalmen (0-14) lost to Case for the second time this season.
Sturgis 18, Falmouth 13: The Storm (9-4) beat the Clippers (6-7) for their second win in the last three games. For the Storm, Ryley Mayo (three runs, three hits), Julianna Grygent (two runs, three hits), Kaylee Koch (four runs, two hits), Aubrey Flynn (one run, three hits), Cassidy Conway (one run, three hits), Molly Reino (two runs, two hits), Sam Orcutt (two runs, one hit), and Bella Enos (two runs) led the offense. Winning pitcher Grygent had nine strikeouts.
St. John Paul II 21, Mashpee 8: The Lions (5-9) topped the Falcons (0-12) to end a two-game losing streak. For the Lions, Elle Kowal went 3-for-5 with a triple, four runs, and four RBIs. Kiara Miller had a triple, two runs, and three RBIs. Julia Dunton had a triple, two runs, and three RBIs. For Mashpee, Kiri Sawyer went 4-for-4 with a double.
Monomoy 22, Nantucket 5: The Sharks (14-0) beat the Whalers (4-9) to remain unbeaten. For the Sharks, Kinsey Lister hit two home runs and drove in six. Willa Leighton went 4-for-4, while Bella Bellefeuille had two hits, including a triple. Lexi Totten had four walks.
Sandwich 14, Nauset 2: The Blue Knights (8-7) topped the Warriors (6-9) for their second win over the latter this season. Sofie Farrington struck out 13 and drove in two runs. Mia Consalvi, Lane Kcaihanzel, Victoria Lott and Jenna Fay led the offense.

Upper Cape 10, Cape Tech 7: The Rams (6-7) beat the Crusaders (3-11) for their second win in a row.
Plymouth North 18, Bourne 8: The Canalmen (7-6) lost to end a three-game winning streak. Charlie Seitz (one goal, two assists), Ryan Haden (three goals), Brady Banks (one goal, three assists), Sean Kelly ( two assists and 68 percent on faceoffs), and Brody Haden (three goals, one assist) handled the scoring for the Canalmen. Nolan Scofield had 14 saves.
Rockland 17, Mashpee 7: The Falcons (7-8) lost their second straight. Dylan Chesly (three goals), Jack Balfour (three goals, one assist), Maxx Smith (one goal, four assists), and Dominic Matteodo (one assist) led the offense. Michael Valois had 22 faceoff wins. Vinny Pinnetti was 5-for-5 on ground balls.
Seekonk 15, Sturgis 4: The Storm (0-10) fell despite scoring a high in goals this month.
Girls Lacrosse
Upper Cape 17, Cape Tech 0: The Rams (8-6) beat the Crusaders (0-8) for their sixth straight win.
Mashpee 15, Rockland 6: The Falcons (9-4) won for the fourth time in the last five games. Ciara Hendricks (seven goals, three assists), Deidra Tokla (one goal), Sophia Morin (three goals), Alanna McDonald (two goals), and Skyler Hickey (two goals) paced the offense. Riley Thomas made 14 saves.
Barnstable 10, Dartmouth 8: The Red Hawks (7-8) won for their second straight victory. Claire Kayajan (five goals), Shelby Locascio (one goal, three assists), Emelie Jonsson (three goals), Caroline Meins (one goal), and Kylie Boorack (one assist) paced the offense. Victoria Dinn played strong defense, and Morgan Mueller made eight saves.

Falmouth Academy 5, Barnstable 0 (first match); Falmouth Academy 5, Barnstable 0 (second match): The Mariners (3-5) beat the Red Hawks (1-12) for their second straight win in a pro-sets doubleheader.

The results are in.Trinity Christian senior Aaron Watson is the new Florida Times-Union Athlete of the Week for Northeast Florida high school sports for the 2024-25 season, covering the week of May 5-10 in the Jacksonville area.
The pitcher recorded a perfect game with 10 strikeouts for Trinity Christian baseball to overcome Bozeman in Game 1 of the Region 1-2A championship series, on the road to the final four.
He placed first in a vote of top Northeast Florida performers that included Cloey Ballinger (Middleburg softball), Payten Cree (Episcopal girls lacrosse), Mason Hauseman (Ponte Vedra boys lacrosse), Jaylen Lewis (Mandarin boys track) and Mikayla Shavers (Fleming Island girls track).

The seventh-grade outfielder batted .625 in the week’s Region 1-1A playoffs, including three doubles, two RBI and four runs scored.

Sheridan/Buffalo HS Soccer: Both the Sheridan boys and girls soccer teams won the 4A East Regional Tournament played at Gillette.
The Broncs defeated the host team Thunder Basin on Friday in the semi-finals 2-1 and then toppled top seed Cheyenne Central on Saturday 3-1, to claim the #1 seed out of the East.
The Lady Broncs had to survive a shootout vs. Campbell County in Friday’s semi-finals, and then endured a 4-3 slugfest vs. Laramie in the regional championship game to maintain their undefeated record.
The State Tournament starts this coming Thursday at Gillette.
The Sheridan girls will start things off at 9am vs. Kelly Walsh at Thunder Basin High School.
The Lady Broncs have only won the state championship once, and that was back in 1993.
The Sheridan boys will play Rock Springs in the first round at 11am at Campbell County High School.
The Broncs only state championship win was in 2011.
Meanwhile, 3A does not play a regional tournament.
Teams are seeded based on where they finish at the end of the regular season.
The Buffalo boys through tie-breakers have the #1 seed out of the East and will play at 11am Thursday vs. Powell.
The Buffalo girls have the East #4 seed and will also play Powell on Thursday at 2pm.

Sheridan/Johnson County HS Track and Field: The Sheridan and Buffalo boys and girls teams, as well as the Big Horn boys, all brought home the team trophies at their respective regional meets.
The Tongue River girls were 2nd, the TR boys were 3rd and the BH girls were 4th.

The state meet starts on Thursday in Casper.
The Sheridan boys are aiming for a repeat and will try to win their 4th state championship in 5 years.
The Sheridan girls are also trying to repeat as champs and the Rams will try to make it 3 in a row.
Both Buffalo teams haven’t won since back in the 1980s.
Sheridan HS Softball: In their first year of existence, the Sheridan Lady Broncs have qualified for the state tournament.
On Friday the team defeated Natrona County 14-4, and then beat Kelly Walsh in the semi-finals 28-13, but fell in the regional championship game on Saturday vs. Campbell County 16-4.
Sheridan will play Cheyenne Central on Thursday at 2pm in the first round of the state tournament in Cheyenne.
Unlike other Wyoming High School Sports, the state softball tournament is a true double-elimination tournament, meaning you can lose once, and still play your way back to the championship game, which will be played on Saturday.

Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers went 3-0 in games played this weekend in Park County.
On Saturday, the team swept a double-header at Powell, and then won the first game of a scheduled double-header at Cody.
Game 2 was rained out.
The Troopers will next play Friday, Saturday and next week Monday at a round robin tournament at Gillette.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost 2 out of 3 games at Arizona this past weekend.
The team lost on Friday 8-zip.
On Saturday, the Rocks won a slugfest 14-12.
Jordan Beck hit both a solo and a 2-run home run in that game.
Ezequiel Tovar had a solo shot, and Kyle Farmer hit a 2-run bomb for the cause.
Arizona won yesterday 1-nothing.
Colorado returns home today to start a 7-game homestand with 4 games vs. Philadelphia, followed by 4 games against the New York Yankees.
First pitch today is scheduled for 6:40pm.
Denver Nuggets Basketball/NBA Playoffs: The Denver Nuggets got ran over and saw their season end yesterday at Oklahoma City 125-93, in Game 7 of their best of 7 western conference semi-final series.
The Thunder will host Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals tomorrow vs. Minnesota.
The Eastern Conference Finals will start on Wednesday between Indiana and New York.
NHL Playoffs: The defending Stanley Cup champ Florida Panthers went into Toronto yesterday and beat the Maple Leafs 6-1 in the Game 7, of their Eastern Conference Semi-Final series, and would win the series 4-games-to-3.
The Eastern Conference Finals start tomorrow between Florida and Carolina, while the Western Conference Finals start on Wednesday, between Edmonton and Dallas.

Nouvel Catholic sophomore Claire Long claimed three titles in the Division 4 regional track meet Saturday at Fowler.
Nouvel finished seventh in the girls standings, but Long won the 100-meter dash in 12.97 seconds, the 200 in 27.24 seconds and the 400 in 59.58 seconds.
Fowler won the girls team title with193.33 points, followed by Breckenridge in second (94.5), Michigan Lutheran Seminary in sixth (45.33), Nouvel in seventh (30), Saginaw Arts & Sciences 10th (20), St. Charles 11th (19), Merrill 13th (11) and Coleman 14th (10.5)
Fowler also won the boys event with 179.5 points, beating out second-place Michigan Lutheran Seminary (131.5) and Breckenridge (59). Coleman was seventh (37), Nouvel 10th (19), St. Charles 11th (17), Merrill 12th (4) and SASA 12th (4).
Breckenridge’s Zander Mapes claimed a pair of championships, winning the discus in 157 feet, 10 inches and the shot put in 48-6 ¾. Breckenridge added another first by Anthony Rowe in the 1,600 in 4:49.53.
Baseball
Alpena Tournament: Freeland went 3-0 and claimed the Alpena Friends Together benefit tournament title Saturday, beating Sault Ste. Marie, 13-3. The 19-7 Falcons scored seven runs in the first inning to put the game away. Connor Lasceski, who earned the win, had three hits, while Jake Metiva also had three hits with two RBIs. Liam Rump and Kaden Gerzseny added two hits each. Freeland opened the tourney with a 9-1 win over Alpena, with Carter McLaren earning the win with a five-inning three-hitter. Jake Clawson had two hits with three RBIs, while Tucker Hileman, Gerzseny, Rump, Lasceski and Metiva added two hits each. In an 11-4 win over Cheboygan, Karson Worth did not allow an earned run in three innings of relief. Worth and Gerzseny had two hits each, with Worth driving in three runs. Gerzseny and Lasceski were named to the all-tournament team.
Shark Invitational: Michigan Lutheran Seminary beat Houghton Lake, 13-2, and St. Louis, 3-0, to claim the St. Louis Shark Invite championship. Owen Mason earned the win over Houghton Lake, striking out two in three innings. Noah Reif, Will Salgat and Eli Lewis had two hits each for the Cardinals, with Lewis driving in three runs. Reif threw a shutout in the second game, striking out eight and allowing four hits. Zachary Scharrer led the MLS offense with a triple, run, walk and stolen base. Easton Seleski had two hits for St. Louis.
Frankenmuth Invite: Frankenmuth opened with an 8-2 win over Standish-Sterling, scoring six runs in the third inning. Frankenmuth dropped a 4-0 decision to Midland Dow in Game 2. Harper O’Keefe earned the win with a four-hitter, striking out eight for Dow. Carter Harcek knocked in two runs for the Chargers. Purves reached base twice on a hit and hit by pitch.
Softball
Frankenmuth Invitational: Frankenmuth went 3-0 in its invitational, starting with a 6-0 win over Bay City Central. Chloe Compau threw a no-hitter with no hits and no walks in seven innings, striking out 13. Miranda Polly led the offense with four hits, including her sixth homer of the season, with Izzy Bernthal walking twice. The Eagles scored three runs in the sixth to beat Yale, 8-7, in the second game, with Mady Goodwin earning the win and getting two hits on offense. Polly led the offense with three hits, with Compau adding two hits. Compau threw a two-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Shepherd, giving her a 15-0 record with 200 strikeouts in 92 innings. Claire Edwards had two hits, with Bernthal getting a hit, walk and run.
Swan Valley Invitational: Swan Valley went 3-0 in its own invite, with Violet Boehler finishing the invite with six hits, including two homers. Mia Robinson struck out nine to earn an 8-4 win over Unionville-Sebewaing in Game 1, with Hailey Koch leading the offense with three hits, including a homer, and five RBIs. Izzy Coffel, Boehler and Robinson had two hits each. In a 13-0 win over Petoskey, Robinson struck out six in three innings for the win. Alivia Guilbeaux had three hits for the Vikings, with Shiloh Charboneux and Boehler adding two hits each. Boehler hit a homer and drove in three runs. Swan Valley finished with a 12-4 win over Bay City Western, with Layla Shanks earning the win with four strikeouts in three innings. Chloe Bryce and Guilbeaux had three hits each, with Coffel, Koch and Boehler adding two hits each, including Boehler’s homer.
St. Louis Grand Slam Tourney: St. Louis reached the championship game at the fourth annual Coach Hanline Grand Slam tourney. St. Louis opened with a 4-2 win over Dansville, with Paige Luneack striking out eight. Takoha Henry and Morgan Leonard led the Sharks with two hits each. St. Louis followed with a 15-0, three-inning win over Beaverton, with Luneack earning another win. Ellie Katt led the Sharks with three hits, with Brynn Saxton adding two hits. Henry hit her first homer of the season. St. Louis (17-8) lost an 8-0 decision to Lake Fenton in the championship game.
Girls Soccer
Midland High 8, Traverse City St. Francis 0: Midland High finished the regular season with an 18-0 record after blowing past a Traverse City St. Francis team that was ranked eighth in the state in Division 3. Elliott Hays earned a hat trick to lead the Chemics, with Alahna Becket adding two goals. Sydney Fulcher, Theresa Wilk and Lizzy Striebel adding single goals. Beckett and Morgan Ludwig had two assists each, with Reagan Vokal, Striebel and Moriah Fulcher adding one assist teach. Niobe Marchalant and Cady McPeak shared time in goal for the shutout.

The freshman finished first in the long jump, shot put and 100-meter hurdles at the South Jersey Group II championships. She jumped a personal-best 17 feet, 11.5 inches in the long jump. She also finished third in the high jump.

The sophomore scored four goals, including the first three of the game, to go with two assists to lead Middle to a 16-3 victory over Absegami. He then scored two goals in an 8-5 loss to Lower Cape May Regional. Rossi-Friend has 37 goals and 19 assists this season.

The senior pitcher threw a complete-game, five-hit shutout as the Mustangs beat Haddonfield 4-0 to win the Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic. The University of Miami recruit struck out nine and walked one.

Quran Clayton Jr. had a field day at the CIF-Southern Section Track and Field Division Finals on Saturday afternoon, May 17.
The sophomore competed in three events at Moorpark High School and brought home two Division 1 medals. He qualified for next week’s CIF-SS Masters Meet in all three events.
Clayton took first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a mark of 13.89 seconds, edging out Long Beach Poly’s Lynnox Newton’s time of 14.09 seconds. At last week’s prelims, Clayton posted a time of 14.13 seconds, a hair behind Newton.
Running alongside Jordan Spencer, Tony ShropShire III, and Jaylen Gooden, they combined for a time of 41.32 seconds to claim first place in the 4×100 relay. The Bulldogs topped Temecula Valley’s time of 41.48 seconds.
Clayton also qualified for the Masters in the 100-meter dash, coming in second place with a mark of 10.55 seconds, just behind Rancho Cucamonga’s Rodney Simmons’ time of 10.36 seconds.
The CIF-SS Masters will also be held at Moorpark High School on May 24. Three other local athletes qualified, including Clayton’s teammate Noah Walker.

Adelanto 4×400 relay, Division 2
The Saints captured sixth place in the relay race with a time of 3:27.53.
Andres Lambarena, Granite Hills, Division 3
Lambarena recorded a throw of 49-7 in the shot put on his second attempt of the day to take seventh place.
Deshaun Kaeo-Kahalioumi, Apple Valley, Division 2
Kaeo-Kahalioumi qualified for the Masters in the discus, coming in second place with a throw of 162-feet-2-inches. Westlake’s Lawson Grace took first place with a throw of 174-2.
Johnny Michener, Riverside Prep, Division 4
Michener recorded a throw of 42-7.50 in the shot put, which was good for eighth place.
Nikolas Blocker, Victor Valley, Division 2
Blocker competed in four events, qualifying for the Masters in one. The junior finished in third place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.54 seconds. He finished sixth place in the 100, posting a time of 10.80 seconds. He also ran legs in both relay races. Running along with Victor Villa, Jeremiah Adams and James Thornton in the 4×100 relay, they finished seventh with a time of 42.47 seconds. In the 4×400 relay with Thornton, Adams and Javontay Williams, they came in eighth place with a time of 3:28.78.
Noah Walker, Oak Hills, Division 1
Walker qualified for the Masters in the high jump, talking second place with a mark of 6-feet-6-inches. He finished behind Ayala’s Nathaniel Baca’s mark of 6-10.
Reniyah Rosborough, Victor Valley, Division 2
Rosborough competed in two events at the Divisional Finals. Her best showing came in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.35 seconds. Rosborough finished ninth in the 200 with a time of 25.92 seconds.
Ryan Merles, Silver Valley, Division 4
Merles competed in two events at the Divisional Finals. His best showing was in the triple jump as he took third place with a mark of 41-8.50. Merles also took fourth place in the high jump with a mark of six feet.
Serwaah Sarpong, Silver Valley, Division 4
Like her classmate Merles, Sarpong competed in two events at the Divisional Finals, taking eighth place in both hurdles. In the 100 hurdles, Sarpong posted a time of 16.12 seconds, and in the 300 hurdles a mark of 49.72 seconds.
Tommy Larry, Serrano, Division 2
Larry took sixth place in the triple jump, posting a mark of 41-feet-8.5-inches on his third attempt of the day.
