The results are in.Trinity Christian senior Aaron Watson is the new Florida Times-Union Athlete of the Week for Northeast Florida high school sports for the 2024-25 season, covering the week of May 5-10 in the Jacksonville area.

The pitcher recorded a perfect game with 10 strikeouts for Trinity Christian baseball to overcome Bozeman in Game 1 of the Region 1-2A championship series, on the road to the final four.

He placed first in a vote of top Northeast Florida performers that included Cloey Ballinger (Middleburg softball), Payten Cree (Episcopal girls lacrosse), Mason Hauseman (Ponte Vedra boys lacrosse), Jaylen Lewis (Mandarin boys track) and Mikayla Shavers (Fleming Island girls track).

The Times-Union gathers nominees from scores, stats and nominations e-mailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across Northeast Florida. Coaches can e-mail these stats and scores to preps@jacksonville.com. Deadline to receive nominations is 7 p.m. Saturdays.

This week’s voting begins Monday morning and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour. Vote at jacksonville.com/sports.

Here are the nominees for events from May 12-17.

Brayden Harris, St. Johns Country Day baseball

The junior pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings in the Class 1A state semifinal against Brito Miami Private and also reached base four times in the final four.

Mila Lackowski, University Christian softball

The seventh-grade outfielder batted .625 in the week’s Region 1-1A playoffs, including three doubles, two RBI and four runs scored.

Sheridan/Buffalo HS Soccer: Both the Sheridan boys and girls soccer teams won the 4A East Regional Tournament played at Gillette.

The Broncs defeated the host team Thunder Basin on Friday in the semi-finals 2-1 and then toppled top seed Cheyenne Central on Saturday 3-1, to claim the #1 seed out of the East.

The Lady Broncs had to survive a shootout vs. Campbell County in Friday’s semi-finals, and then endured a 4-3 slugfest vs. Laramie in the regional championship game to maintain their undefeated record.

The State Tournament starts this coming Thursday at Gillette.

The Sheridan girls will start things off at 9am vs. Kelly Walsh at Thunder Basin High School.

The Lady Broncs have only won the state championship once, and that was back in 1993.

The Sheridan boys will play Rock Springs in the first round at 11am at Campbell County High School.

The Broncs only state championship win was in 2011.

Meanwhile, 3A does not play a regional tournament.

Teams are seeded based on where they finish at the end of the regular season.

The Buffalo boys through tie-breakers have the #1 seed out of the East and will play at 11am Thursday vs. Powell.

The Buffalo girls have the East #4 seed and will also play Powell on Thursday at 2pm.

Sheridan/Johnson County HS Track and Field: The Sheridan and Buffalo boys and girls teams, as well as the Big Horn boys, all brought home the team trophies at their respective regional meets.

The Tongue River girls were 2nd, the TR boys were 3rd and the BH girls were 4th.

The state meet starts on Thursday in Casper.

The Sheridan boys are aiming for a repeat and will try to win their 4th state championship in 5 years.

The Sheridan girls are also trying to repeat as champs and the Rams will try to make it 3 in a row.

Both Buffalo teams haven’t won since back in the 1980s.

Sheridan HS Softball: In their first year of existence, the Sheridan Lady Broncs have qualified for the state tournament.

On Friday the team defeated Natrona County 14-4, and then beat Kelly Walsh in the semi-finals 28-13, but fell in the regional championship game on Saturday vs. Campbell County 16-4.

Sheridan will play Cheyenne Central on Thursday at 2pm in the first round of the state tournament in Cheyenne.

Unlike other Wyoming High School Sports, the state softball tournament is a true double-elimination tournament, meaning you can lose once, and still play your way back to the championship game, which will be played on Saturday.

Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers went 3-0 in games played this weekend in Park County.

On Saturday, the team swept a double-header at Powell, and then won the first game of a scheduled double-header at Cody.

Game 2 was rained out.

The Troopers will next play Friday, Saturday and next week Monday at a round robin tournament at Gillette.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost 2 out of 3 games at Arizona this past weekend.

The team lost on Friday 8-zip.

On Saturday, the Rocks won a slugfest 14-12.

Jordan Beck hit both a solo and a 2-run home run in that game.

Ezequiel Tovar had a solo shot, and Kyle Farmer hit a 2-run bomb for the cause.

Arizona won yesterday 1-nothing.

Colorado returns home today to start a 7-game homestand with 4 games vs. Philadelphia, followed by 4 games against the New York Yankees.

First pitch today is scheduled for 6:40pm.

Denver Nuggets Basketball/NBA Playoffs: The Denver Nuggets got ran over and saw their season end yesterday at Oklahoma City 125-93, in Game 7 of their best of 7 western conference semi-final series.

The Thunder will host Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals tomorrow vs. Minnesota.

The Eastern Conference Finals will start on Wednesday between Indiana and New York.

NHL Playoffs: The defending Stanley Cup champ Florida Panthers went into Toronto yesterday and beat the Maple Leafs 6-1 in the Game 7, of their Eastern Conference Semi-Final series, and would win the series 4-games-to-3.

The Eastern Conference Finals start tomorrow between Florida and Carolina, while the Western Conference Finals start on Wednesday, between Edmonton and Dallas.

Nouvel Catholic sophomore Claire Long claimed three titles in the Division 4 regional track meet Saturday at Fowler.

Nouvel finished seventh in the girls standings, but Long won the 100-meter dash in 12.97 seconds, the 200 in 27.24 seconds and the 400 in 59.58 seconds.

Fowler won the girls team title with193.33 points, followed by Breckenridge in second (94.5), Michigan Lutheran Seminary in sixth (45.33), Nouvel in seventh (30), Saginaw Arts & Sciences 10th (20), St. Charles 11th (19), Merrill 13th (11) and Coleman 14th (10.5)

Fowler also won the boys event with 179.5 points, beating out second-place Michigan Lutheran Seminary (131.5) and Breckenridge (59). Coleman was seventh (37), Nouvel 10th (19), St. Charles 11th (17), Merrill 12th (4) and SASA 12th (4).

Breckenridge’s Zander Mapes claimed a pair of championships, winning the discus in 157 feet, 10 inches and the shot put in 48-6 ¾. Breckenridge added another first by Anthony Rowe in the 1,600 in 4:49.53.

Baseball

Alpena Tournament: Freeland went 3-0 and claimed the Alpena Friends Together benefit tournament title Saturday, beating Sault Ste. Marie, 13-3. The 19-7 Falcons scored seven runs in the first inning to put the game away. Connor Lasceski, who earned the win, had three hits, while Jake Metiva also had three hits with two RBIs. Liam Rump and Kaden Gerzseny added two hits each. Freeland opened the tourney with a 9-1 win over Alpena, with Carter McLaren earning the win with a five-inning three-hitter. Jake Clawson had two hits with three RBIs, while Tucker Hileman, Gerzseny, Rump, Lasceski and Metiva added two hits each. In an 11-4 win over Cheboygan, Karson Worth did not allow an earned run in three innings of relief. Worth and Gerzseny had two hits each, with Worth driving in three runs. Gerzseny and Lasceski were named to the all-tournament team.

Shark Invitational: Michigan Lutheran Seminary beat Houghton Lake, 13-2, and St. Louis, 3-0, to claim the St. Louis Shark Invite championship. Owen Mason earned the win over Houghton Lake, striking out two in three innings. Noah Reif, Will Salgat and Eli Lewis had two hits each for the Cardinals, with Lewis driving in three runs. Reif threw a shutout in the second game, striking out eight and allowing four hits. Zachary Scharrer led the MLS offense with a triple, run, walk and stolen base. Easton Seleski had two hits for St. Louis.

Frankenmuth Invite: Frankenmuth opened with an 8-2 win over Standish-Sterling, scoring six runs in the third inning. Brady Mort had two hits, two RBIs and a stolen base to lead the Eagles, with Luke Purves walking and scoring twice. Caden Sommerfield earned the win with two shutout innings. Frankenmuth dropped a 4-0 decision to Midland Dow in Game 2. Harper O’Keefe earned the win with a four-hitter, striking out eight for Dow. Carter Harcek knocked in two runs for the Chargers. Purves reached base twice on a hit and hit by pitch.

Softball

Frankenmuth Invitational: Frankenmuth went 3-0 in its invitational, starting with a 6-0 win over Bay City Central. Chloe Compau threw a no-hitter with no hits and no walks in seven innings, striking out 13. Miranda Polly led the offense with four hits, including her sixth homer of the season, with Izzy Bernthal walking twice. The Eagles scored three runs in the sixth to beat Yale, 8-7, in the second game, with Mady Goodwin earning the win and getting two hits on offense. Polly led the offense with three hits, with Compau adding two hits. Compau threw a two-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Shepherd, giving her a 15-0 record with 200 strikeouts in 92 innings. Claire Edwards had two hits, with Bernthal getting a hit, walk and run.

Swan Valley Invitational: Swan Valley went 3-0 in its own invite, with Violet Boehler finishing the invite with six hits, including two homers. Mia Robinson struck out nine to earn an 8-4 win over Unionville-Sebewaing in Game 1, with Hailey Koch leading the offense with three hits, including a homer, and five RBIs. Izzy Coffel, Boehler and Robinson had two hits each. In a 13-0 win over Petoskey, Robinson struck out six in three innings for the win. Alivia Guilbeaux had three hits for the Vikings, with Shiloh Charboneux and Boehler adding two hits each. Boehler hit a homer and drove in three runs. Swan Valley finished with a 12-4 win over Bay City Western, with Layla Shanks earning the win with four strikeouts in three innings. Chloe Bryce and Guilbeaux had three hits each, with Coffel, Koch and Boehler adding two hits each, including Boehler’s homer.

St. Louis Grand Slam Tourney: St. Louis reached the championship game at the fourth annual Coach Hanline Grand Slam tourney. St. Louis opened with a 4-2 win over Dansville, with Paige Luneack striking out eight. Takoha Henry and Morgan Leonard led the Sharks with two hits each. St. Louis followed with a 15-0, three-inning win over Beaverton, with Luneack earning another win. Ellie Katt led the Sharks with three hits, with Brynn Saxton adding two hits. Henry hit her first homer of the season. St. Louis (17-8) lost an 8-0 decision to Lake Fenton in the championship game.

Girls Soccer

Midland High 8, Traverse City St. Francis 0: Midland High finished the regular season with an 18-0 record after blowing past a Traverse City St. Francis team that was ranked eighth in the state in Division 3. Elliott Hays earned a hat trick to lead the Chemics, with Alahna Becket adding two goals. Sydney Fulcher, Theresa Wilk and Lizzy Striebel adding single goals. Beckett and Morgan Ludwig had two assists each, with Reagan Vokal, Striebel and Moriah Fulcher adding one assist teach. Niobe Marchalant and Cady McPeak shared time in goal for the shutout.
