Key players: KP – Will Carson (game-winning goal), William Spanos, Jake Moreau; LWI – Philip Hubacher (54 saves), Rock Londer (2 goals), Alex Wilson (goal), Will Thayer (assist)

Highlights: Hubacher stood on his head to give the Lakers a chance to win, but the Cats built a 2-0 lead in the first period that the Lakers couldn’t overcome and Carson netted the game winner in OT on Thursday. The game also served as the first fundraiser for the nonprofit Giuseppe M. Bonanno Foundation. Bonanno, a former player for the Lakers, died in a motorcycle accident in July at age 18.

Coach’s quote: “Great game at an emotional night in Laconia where Giuseppe Bonanno was honored. We were dominant in all three zones, but we ran up again a hot goalie. It was a resilient effort from the guys to see the win through.” – Kearsarge-Plymouth’s Matthew Gallant

Highlights: The Cats came out with a strong first period, leading 3-0 at the first intermission and picking up the win on Saturday.

Coach’s quote: “We played a really strong first and third period, and our (penalty kill) was solid in the second. We are starting to see this group come together and find their identity as a team.” – Kearsarge-Plymouth’s Matthew Gallant

Concord 9, Exeter 3

Key players: Concord – Nolan Walsh (2 goals), Chad Larviere (2 goals), Lukas Rondiak (2 assists), Austin Proulx (2 assists), Jaden Haas (goal, 2 assists), Cam Roy (goal, 2 assists), Trevor Craigue (goal), Rowan Arndt (goal), Tyler Morin (goal)

Highlights: The Tide led 1-0 after the first period and the game was tied 1-1 midway through the second, but Concord broke the game open with goals from Walsh, Craigue and Arndt to make it 4-1 heading into the third. The Tide then netted five more goals in the final frame. The victory comes one week after Concord defeated Exeter, 3-1, to win the Brian Stone Memorial Christmas Tournament.

Key players: JSHHD — Kip Hedquist (1 goal), Fin Murphy (1 goal), Ryan Podsadowski (1 assist), Finn Travers (1 assist), Sam Scordo (1 assist), Lucas Arlen (25 saves)

Highlights: Kennett scored a power-play goal in the second period to go up 3-0 before Hedquist put the General Hawks on the board later in the period. The Eagles went up 4-1 in the third, but Murphy responded to cap the scoring.

Coach’s quote: “Kennett came out and outplayed us in all aspects of the game, jumping to the two-goal lead. Our offensive pressure was solid, but we weren’t getting the puck to the net enough.” – JSHHD’s Denis Kolehmainen

Key players: Concord – Brooke Nelson (2 goals), Claire Brown (goal), Addison Twyon (goal), Emelia Raimo (goal)

Highlights: Concord was down 2-0 after the first period, but scored five unanswered goals to defeat the Cardinals in Nashua.

Coach’s quote: “We had a slow start in the first period and let (Bishop Guertin) get up by two, but we regrouped after that and found our game. We were able to pin them in their zone and find the back of the net. I’m proud of the effort after that slow start. We showed heart and grit.” – Concord’s Kate Billings

Highlights: The Brinity Falcons led 4-0 after the first period and 6-2 through two periods to remain undefeated.

Key players: Concord – JD Nkurunziza (17 points), Jackson Harerimana (7 points), Holden Martin (6 points, rebounding)

Highlights: Exeter came out with more energy to take a 15-7 lead through one quarter and extended it to 36-17 at halftime. Concord made a run in the third to win the quarter and cut the deficit to 16 points going into the fourth, but the Blue Hawks maintained the lead the rest of the way.

Coach’s quote: “Our guys are still learning how to compete consistently. Exeter is a very good team, and we played them even in the second half. We have to find a way to compete for 32 minutes and not just in spurts. More positives than negatives tonight.” – Concord’s Tim LaTorra

Highlights: The Bears handed the Sabers their first loss of the season in Northwood on Friday night.

Highlights: Undefeated Kearsarge built a double-digit lead at the end of the first quarter (20-8) and at halftime (29-17), but the resilient Hawks battled back to 36-33 at the end of the third quarter and got off a 3-pointer at the final buzzer that could’ve tied the game.

Highlights: The Raiders handed the visiting Cougars their first loss of the season on Friday night.

Concord Christian 43Newmarket 42

Key players: Concord Christian – Luke Farland (10 points), TJ Charbono (9 points), Jaden Young (7 points), Jack Owens (6 points)

Highlights: The visiting Mules came out on fire, taking a 22-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Kingsmen outscored Newmarket 28-7 over the next two quarters and held on in a tightly-contested fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Coach’s quote: “Hats off to Newmarket. They came to play. We were fortunate to walk away with the win.” – Concord Christian’s Greg Farland

Franklin 57, Mascenic 53, OT

Key players: Franklin – Harrison Kaplan (27 points), Matt Carlsen (12 points), Nate Holmes (8 points), Matt Nason (6 points), Cole Johnson (4 points); Mascenic – Lucas Leroux (27 points)

Highlights: Kaplan fed Nason under the basket, and the bucket scored with 2 seconds left in regulation forced overtime. Franklin led by 10 in OT, and the Vikings scored six points in the final minute but couldn’t close the gap. The Tornadoes led 27-15 at halftime but also nearly gave the game away, thanks to Leroux’s 15 second-half points.

Records: Franklin 3-3; Mascenic 0-5 Girls’ Basketball

Hopkinton 39, Kearsarge 32

Key players: Hopkinton – Shaylee Murdough (12 points, 5 assists, 4 steals), Sydney Westover (12 points, 14 rebounds); Kearsarge – Ava Shapiro (14 points)

Highlights: The game was tied, 19-19, at halftime, but the Hawks pulled away in the third quarter, taking a 27-22 lead into the fourth to win a rematch of last year’s Division III championship game. Hopkinton held Kearsarge to three points in the third quarter and hit key 3-pointers and free throws late in the fourth to earn the win on its home court.

Coach’s quote: “Another great Hopkinton/Kearsarge game. After giving up five threes in the first half, we held them to one in the second. The girls did a great job picking up the defensive intensity and limiting turnovers down the stretch.” – Hopkinton’s Mike Mahoney

Campbell 55, Belmont 43

Highlights: The Raiders committed too many turnovers and fell behind early, and a late comeback fell short.

Highlights: The shorthanded Giants fell behind 15-3 at the end of the first quarter and 29-9 at halftime.

Highlights: The Hillcats held the Rams to two points in the second and third quarters. Raymond hit a pair of deep 3-pointers in the final minute of the game, but H-D hung on for the win.

Coach’s quote: “We had way too many turnovers, but we continue to improve. We shot 12-for-15 from the line, which is outstanding. We still need to improve in many areas, but getting tonight’s victory certainly shows the girls they are improving.” – H-D’s Bruce Johnson

Bow, John Stark at USM Invitational

Key players: Bow – Kody McCranie (1st 200 in 22.74 seconds); John Stark – Rio Calle (1st high jump at 6-2)

Highlights: The Falcons and Generals traveled to Gorham, Maine, for the University of Southern Maine New Years Invitational, featuring over 50 teams from Maine and New Hampshire. McCranie set a meet record in the 200 meters, breaking the previous mark of 22.86.

Merrimack Valley 2nd

Key players: MV – Nicolas Oglesby (1st high jump at 6-1, 1st long jump at 20-0.25), Mychal Reynolds (1st 600 in 1:33), Owen Turner (2nd high jump, 3rd long jump), Davian Loiselle (2nd 600), Ben Geoffrey (3rd 600), Trenton Jeski (3rd high jump, 4th 55 hurdles), Ben Newton (5th 600), 4×200 (2nd), 4×400 (3rd)

Highlights: Oglesby swept the jumps and the Pride piled on points in the high jump, long jump and 600 to finish second out of nine teams in a meet at Plymouth State on Saturday morning. Division I Alvirne (142) was the only team to top D-II MV (84). Portsmouth Christian (36) and Timberlane (33) rounded out the top four.

Coe-Brown 3rd

Key players: Coe-Brown – Bryce Sartin (1st long jump at 20-0.25), Patrick Youngs (1st 3,000 in 9:25), Luc Kerouac (2nd 3,000), Brogan Gryzbowski (2nd 54 hurdles), Gavin Dyjak (3rd 1,000), Landon Graveline (4th 3,000), Anthony Szatko (5th 600), Dylan Plowman (6th 600), 4×400 (3rd)

Key players: Bow – Hannah Pawlowski (2nd 400, 5th 800), Julia Hou (3rd pole vault, clearing 10-0); John Stark – Ayris Beliveau (18th 55 hurdles), Anna Chasse (18th 1 mile); Kearsarge – Juliet Faria (18th 200)

Highlights: The Falcons, Generals and Cougars competed in the University of Southern Maine New Years Invitational in Gorham against more than 50 teams from Maine and New Hampshire. Pawlowski was the top area competitor, finishing in the top five in three events, including a leg of the fifth-place sprint medley relay with Emily Fauteux, Camden Wilson and Hou.

Key players: Winnisquam – Dylan Griffin (3-0, 3 pins at 132), Aiden Sufert (3-0, pin at 120), Ryan Cormier (3-0, pin at 126), David Jean (3-0, pin at 175), Sam Weisman (3-0, pin at 190)

Highlights: The Bears won two out of three duals in a quad meet at Merrimack, led by five Winnisquam wrestlers who went 3-0 on the day. Winnisquam beat Mascenic (72-12) and Mascoma (55-23) but lost to Creskill, N.Y. (52-30).
