How Boone County performed at the Class 1-3 state track and field meet
Boone County was represented this weekend at the MSHAA State Track and Field Championships for classes 1-3 in Jefferson City. This included multiple top-five finishes from athletes in the area.
Here’s how Centralia, Hallsville, Harrisburg, Southern Boone, and Sturgeon performed at Adkins Stadium.
Centralia boys track and field team finishes in the top five
Centralia’s boys track and field team placed fifth among Class 3 teams with 31.5 points, behind Blair Oaks’ 32. St. Francis Borgia placed first, while El Dorado Springs and Lift for Life Academy Charter collected second and third-place finishes, respectively.
For the Panthers, Nolan Spickert is only a freshman but made an impact in his first year at state. Spickert placed second in the boys 3200-meter run at 9:23.42 while also placing fourth in the 1600-meter run at 4:16.86.
Ethan Ross collected a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash at 49.97 and also came in seventh in the 100-meter dash at 10.88. Jacob Beard came in sixth in pole vault at 4.13 meters, while Josh Russell placed eighth in discus at 46.57 meters.
Centralia girls track and field team collects a top 10 finish
On the girls side, Centralia placed eighth with 27 points. Central (New Madrid County) placed first, while El Dorado Springs and Owensville finished second and third, respectively.
The Panthers 4×800 team featuring Elizabeth Romine, Kenedee Moss, Katelynn Asbury, and Rebecca Erisman placed fifth at 10:03.90. Moss also placed third in the 1600-meter run at 5:25.37.
Cora King placed fourth in discus with a mark of 38.45 meters and eighth in shot put at 10.81 meters. Continuing in the field events, Claire Page placed fourth in pole vault with a mark of 3.25 meters, while Addison Reynolds came in ninth in javelin at 34.53 meters.
Harrisburg’s boys and girls teams place in the top 20
Harrisburg’s boys 4×400 team, with Caleb Nichols, Isaac DeMuth, Sam Katsaros, and Trace Combs, placed fourth with a time of 3:31.24. The Bulldogs boys team’s 16 points tied with Brentwood and South Shelby for 17th place in Class 2. Adrian placed first, while West Platte came in second, while Jefferson (Festus) collected a third-place finish.
Katsaros came in sixth in triple jump at 12.95 meters, while Combs placed seventh in high jump at 1.89 meters.
Leading Harrisburg’s girls team to a 20th-place finish with 10 points, tying Metro and Marceline, Poppy Spry placed fourth in pole vault with a mark of 3.09 meters. Marie Bergfield placed 16th in the 800-meter run at 2:37.38. North Platte won the girls Class 2 title. Penny placed second, while Fayette came in third.
Aidan McDaniel highlights Southern Boone boys team
After winning state last season in shot put, Southern Boone’s Aidan McDaniel returned to Jefferson City in the same event. With a mark of 16.78 meters, McDaniel placed fourth in the Class 3 competition. The Eagles placed 28th overall with 11 points.
Braidan Jackson, Hudson Talley, Luke Amelunke, and Timothy Lutz made up Southern Boone’s relay teams. In the 4×200, the group placed eighth at 1:38.87 while collecting a seventh-place finish in the 4×100 at 44.82. Talley placed sixth in the 100-meter dash at 10.87.
Within the girls competition, Lilah Hinton placed sixth in the 400-meter dash at 59.57.
Hallsville and Sturgeon see athletes compete
Tison Perrigo of Hallsville boys track and field placed eighth in the Class 3 shot put competition with a mark of 15.10 meters. Hallsville’s girls team featured Bella Abell placing eighth in pole vault at 2.82 meters, while Ellie Schisler came in 13th in high jump at 1.45 meters.
Sturgeon girls 4×200 team with Addie Woods, Braegan Richards, Brooke Smith, and Kyra Allen placed seventh with a time of 1:56.70 in the Class 1 competition. On the boys side, Sturgeon’s Mykel Roop placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles at 11.41.
The MSHAA championships continue next weekend in Jefferson City as Classes 4-5 will compete from May 30-31.
