How Rosemount track and field built a strong throws culture and produced an Olympian

Secluded and spacious, “the Hill” is not very nice in the grand scheme of every other school, Hatleli said. Otterdahl said the mats near the rings might date back to before he graduated and went on to win NCAA titles in shot put and weight throw at North Dakota State.

“But it’s ours,” said Hatleli, “and we own it, and keep it this way. It’s a little culture up here.”

Of the 300 kids who typically come out for track and field, “on a given year, half of our roster is throwers,” Hatleli said. “It’s bizarre in track.”

The depth of its throws program has helped the Rosemount team rack up recent state accolades.

Conboy was briefly the boys team’s head coach in the ’90s until … “I fired myself,” Conboy said. He instead brought on Hatleli, a former Gophers runner, to replace him as head coach of the boys team 23 years ago. Sara Hatleli, Jay’s wife and a Rosemount alum, began coaching the girls program four years later.

The Rosemount boys won big-school state titles in 2008, 2021 and 2023, while the girls have placed first in 1984, 2019, 2021 and 2022. The Irish have also cleaned up well at the true-team state meets, with titles in 2019 and 2021 on the girls side, and 2009, 2011 and 2021 for the boys.

Internet Reacts Unexpectedly to Olivia Dunne as Iconic Past Videos Go Viral

Internet Reacts Unexpectedly to Olivia Dunne as Iconic Past Videos Go Viral

“Gymnastics, you have filled my heart and will always be a part of me,” Olivia Dunne said through misty eyes in a heartfelt video she posted on April 21—the day she officially bid farewell to her collegiate gymnastics career. “You’ve shaped me into the person I am today, creating memories and sisterhoods that will last a lifetime beyond the sport. You are my first love.” In just 2 minutes and 36 seconds, the video traced every high and low of her LSU journey—from her earliest tumbles to her final salute on the mat. It was personal. It was poetic. And overall, it was pure Livvy.

Though her senior season in 2025 saw limited appearances—just four events—Olivia made her moments count. Her highest score, a 9.8750 in the floor exercise, wasn’t just a number. It was a reminder of her resilience. And with the NCAA’s newly implemented scoring system this year tightening the pathway to perfect 10s, that score became even more meaningful. Yet, almost as soon as the video dropped, so did the trolls.

“Isn’t this what most athletes do after college?” one comment sneered. Others echoed a sentiment that has unfairly shadowed Olivia Dunne’s entire gymnastics career—dismissing her as more influencer than an athlete, more hype than talent. The phrase “professional benchwarmer” wasn’t just cruel; it ignored the years of discipline and dedication that never made it to social media highlights. But then, 21 days later, something shifted.

On May 11, the Instagram account Planet of Gymnastics posted a montage that changed the conversation. The clips were raw. Real. Powerful. Olivia was seen flipping on the balance beam, flying across the vault table, and delivering clean lines on uneven bars. The standout? A jaw-dropping double Arabian layout—executed with the kind of elite-level sharpness that silenced skeptics in a heartbeat.

“I could write a thesis about the misogynistic hate she gets every time she posts about gymnastics. She is/was extremely talented and it’s great to see recognition of her skills!!” One fan wrote under the post.  Soon, others followed suit, flooding the comments with messages of respect, admiration, and—finally—recognition. So, the trolls may have spoken first, but the true gymnastics community had the final word. And that word was gratitude.

Olivia Dunne may have taken her last bow back in January. But one thing is clear: Livvy didn’t just leave behind a leotard—she left a legacy. But do you want to see the impact of her legacy on her gymnastics fans?

Olivia Dunne earns unexpected admiration from gymnastics fans

The comments came in fast, fiery, and full of awe. “the punch front half to ring jump on beam is wild! 🙌,” one stunned viewer wrote beneath Planet of Gymnastics’ May 11 tribute post to Olivia Dunne. And wild it was—Livvy floated across the balance beam with precision, grace, and the confidence of someone who had clearly trained in the trenches. The beam sequence was clean, crisp, and bursting with control—a time capsule of a pre-injury Livvy, back when she was grinding at national team camps, chasing elite dreams. But the surprises didn’t stop there.

“Impressive. Who else here has no idea? 🤚 The front aerial illusion combo is so so elegant.” added another fan. Elegant is putting it mildly. The front aerial—a no-hands walkover that demands core strength, explosive power, and flexible fluidity—was executed with textbook form. Dunne didn’t just complete the skill—she made it art. And then came the move that set the comment section ablaze. “Love that Dos Santos II! 👏”  someone cheered.

Yes, that Dos Santos II—the double Arabian layout that’s considered more myth than reality in women’s gymnastics. First attempted by Brazil’s Daiane Dos Santos, the skill’s inclusion in the Code of Points has long sparked debate, with many arguing it was never truly “layout” enough to deserve the name. Yet here was Livvy, flipping it into reality with poise and control. Clean takeoff. Extended hips. Nearly stuck landing. The move that was once deemed “too theoretical” looked anything but in Dunne’s performance. Elsewhere, the beam buzz continued.

“The beam connection though!😍 one fan gushed, and for good reason. Her fluid transitions between difficult elements—effortlessly linking one skill to another—embodied the seamless style coaches spend years drilling into gymnasts. It was the kind of work that doesn’t just show up under bright arena lights—it’s built in silent training halls, away from the applause.

But among all the technical praise, one comment hit hardest: “Then casuals will say she was an “average” gymnast 🤣.” That single line echoed the frustration of long-time gymnastics fans who’ve watched Dunne battle public scrutiny, not for lack of talent, but because she didn’t fit the mold people expected. Her fame on social media became a weapon used against her, minimizing the blood, sweat, and ankle braces that never made it into the filtered frame. Now, 21 days after her retirement post, the receipts are here. The double Arabians. The front aerials. And the beam magic. All of it. And the gymnastics world is finally clapping back—with facts.

Who will lead India in Tests after Rohit?

With Rohit Sharma stepping down from Test cricket, India’s next big challenge is the five-match Test series in England, starting June 20, marking the beginning of the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the new captain soon. 2027 ODI World Cup

With their retirement from both T20 Internationals and Test cricket, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will now focus solely on ODIs for India. Many believe the iconic pair is aiming to continue until the 2027 ODI World Cup, potentially making it their final international assignment.

However, with the emergence of young talent and the constant pressure to perform, their spot in the squad is no longer guaranteed. Whether Virat and Rohit manage to stay in contention for one last ICC tournament or choose to step away before then will depend on form, fitness, and team dynamics over the coming years.

Stephen Curry rocks small Bay Area brand LACES courtside, sparking a hat frenzy

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — A small Bay Area brand has gone from side hustle to viral sensation, thanks to NBA superstar Stephen Curry.

Jeff Chu is the director of operations for Chu and Waters, a CPA and financial advisory firm by day. He was stunned when his phone began blowing up earlier this month during the Western Conference Semifinals.

The reason? An injured Curry was spotted courtside wearing a hat from Chu’s side hustle project, a brand called LACES. The bold upside down “Bay Area” logo made quite the splash.

“I see Steph with the hat on and I thought, ‘Oh my God!'” Chu recalled. “It sold out in a couple of minutes. We had to put everything on pre-order.”

Since launching LACES just a year and a half ago, s caps were worn by top-tier athletes like 49ers stars Fred Warner, Kyle Juszczyk, and George Kittle, Rams defensive lineman Kobie Turner, and players from Bay FC. But the Curry moment gave LACES a massive boost, with sales explosion 10,000% overnight.

VIDEO: Stephen Curry makes lifetime memories for Warriors fans of all ages

Earlier this month, Warriors star Stephen Curry gave back to some of his biggest fans in unique “Steph style.”

“It literally was the best-case scenario,” said Chu.

But LACES is more than a fashion-forward sportswear brand. It’s also a platform for empowering college athletes through name, image, likeness opportunities – even for those who aren’t household names.

“LACES gives NIL opportunities to every single athlete,” said Jamie Pope, a Division I tennis player at Santa Clara University and LACES’ community manager. “Not just the top-ranked ones who are going pro.”

For Pope, the experience has been transformative. In addition to earning income through the brand, she and other student athletes get hands-on involvement in product design, marketing, and brand building.

Chu says these are skills that go far beyond the court, field, or school.

“We’re trying to create real-world experiences that actually translate to the job market”.

The now-iconic upside down “Bay Area” hat isn’t just about style – it symbolizes LACES’ mission to flip the script on NIL by starting from the bottom up.

Despite the frenzy, Chu says the best part isn’t the celebrity attention.

“As excited as I am about Steph, my favorite player, growing up in the Bay… what excites me most is that he brought awareness to these athletes and elevated them.”

Hats are available at the LACES website with the now famous upside down Bay Area hat on backorder until early July.

UGA graduation singer speaks about going viral for 'Georgia on My Mind' performance

WOODSTOCK, Ga. — A University of Georgia graduate now has Georgia on the minds of people all over. Woodstock native Grace Johnson sang “Georgia on my Mind,” the official song for the Peach State, at UGA’s graduation Friday, and her rendition has gone viral on social media.

UGA’s TikTok video alone has more than 95,000 likes.

“It’s a big moment in peoples lives, so being able to sing at such a momentous occasion was just such a privilege and just so unreal,” Johnson said.

The advertising major has been singing since she was eight years old. She submitted an audition video to sing at graduation, but never expected what would happen after.

She said she was surprised Saturday morning when people on the social media app YikYak, which is used by those on UGA’s campus, started talking about it. Then the rest of the world took notice.

“I am grateful, I feel really fortunate to have been able to share my voice at this scale,” Johnson said. “It’s very surprising, it still is.”

In the days leading up to graduation, the song was on Johnson’s mind.

“I know that, you know, in a couple of months I’m going to listen to it, probably like, shed a little tear, because it’s just so perfect,” Johnson said. “It will always remind me of this opportunity, and of UGA, and being from Georgia in general.”

As unique as her days following graduation have been, what’s on her mind right now is quite typical for a recent college grad.

“I know a lot of people are you know saying like, ‘c’mon girl, where’s the record deal,’ but I’m still looking for my job,” Johnson joked.

Fans on X (formerly Twitter) flooded timelines with the clip, celebrating Rohit’s trademark candidness and cheeky humour. The moment offered a rare look at the lighter side of a cricketer often under intense public scrutiny.

This viral moment comes on the heels of a major announcement: Rohit Sharma has officially retired from Test cricket. The 38-year-old posted an emotional message on Instagram, ending a 67-match red-ball career that saw him score over 4,300 runs with 12 centuries last Wednesday.

Despite a dip in recent Test form, Rohit’s legacy as a late-blooming, dependable opener is secure.

While he steps away from the whites, Rohit remains committed to ODIs and continues to influence Indian cricket with both bat and mind. From leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title to giving fans viral moments like these, Rohit Sharma’s presence in Indian cricket remains both impactful and entertaining.
