Layne Riggs takes the pole for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series playoff-opening race at Darlington Raceway on Saturday
The playoffs arrive Saturday afternoon for 10 drivers on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, with Layne Riggs claiming the pole position for the Sober or Slammer 200 at the iconic Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina. The race is the first of three contests in the Round of 10 Playoffs which will whittle the field down to eight for the next round. The top three qualifiers for Saturday are the three drivers who enter the race at the top of the playoff standings, with Riggs and Chandler Smith on the front row and Corey Heim beginning on the inside of Row 2.

Riggs turned a 29.323 lap, just 0.008 seconds faster than Smith, to take the pole. Playoff drivers occupy the first five starting positions, with Grant Enfinger on the outside of the second row and Kaden Honeycutt on the inside of Row 3. Daniel Hemric starts seventh, Ty Majeski eighth, Tyler Ankrum 10th, Rajah Caruth 11th and Jake Garcia 13th.
Honeycutt and Garcia enter the race below the cutoff line, with Honeycutt two points behind eighth-place Caruth and Garcia three points back. Playoff drivers automatically qualify for the next round with a race win. Heim, who won a series-high seven races, comes into the playoffs with a 62-point cushion over Honeycutt. Riggs and Smith, the only other multiple-race winners on the series, are at 23 and 16 points up, respectively.
Darlington Raceway is a 1.366-mile asphalt oval that opened in 1950 and has had the same configuration since 1953. The race covers 147 laps (200.802 miles), with the first two stages set for 45 laps each before a 57-lap final stage. The race moved from the spring in 2025 to become part of the playoffs.
