Here’s what Davis had to say regarding the plans moving forward:Similar to what we've seen the football program do recently, the UNC basketball program is set to expand its staff, including hiring a general manager to help run the operation. “I never would have thought four years ago that I took the job that 100% what is needed is a general manager. There’s just so much stuff out there, and I mention owner, GM, fund-raiser, basketball coach. It’s so much on the plate that will take you away from doing what’s the most important thing — coaching basketball.Davis went onto speak about how he never envisioned this when he first took the job four years ago, showing just how drastic the college basketball world has changed in such a short amount of time:The UNC basketball program currently has a staff of 11 people (not including Davis)- five assistant coaches along with six support staff members. It appears that this will increase over the next few months, as Davis said the plan is to have a general manager in place after the conclusion of the 2024-2025 season.During the “Hubert Davis Live” radio show, the UNC basketball program's head coach confirmed that changes are going to be made to keep up with the current times.“The old model for Carolina basketball just doesn’t work. It’s not sustainable. It has to build out because there’s so many things in play with NIL, the transfer portal, agents [and] international players. You just need a bigger staff to be able to maintain things. And you need a bigger staff so I can do what I’m supposed to be doing — coaching basketball.”Similar to what we’ve seen the football program do recently, the UNC basketball program is set to expand its staff, including hiring a general manager to help run the operation.
