IndyCar’s A.J. Foyt Racing starting Indy NXT team, alliance with HMD Motorsports
One of the IndyCar Series’ legendary teams is extending its reach into the development series.
A.J. Foyt Racing will field two cars in Indy NXT in 2026, backed by a strategic alliance with Indy NXT powerhouse HMD Motorsports.
“This has been a long time coming,” Larry Foyt, Foyt team president, said. “We’ve played a significant role in developing drivers who have gone on to compete at the top level of IndyCar. We felt it was time to get involved in the Indy NXT by Firestone program again.”
HMD Motorsports has fielded Indy NXT cars since 2019, winning a team title and two drivers’ championships. David Malukas, Christian Rasmussen, Linus Lundqvist, Benjamin Pedersen, Kyffin Simpson and Nolan Siegel drove for HMD before competing in the IndyCar Series.
The team founded by four-time Indianapolis 500 champion A.J. Foyt previously fielded cars in IndyCar’s development series. A.J. Foyt IV, the legend’s grandson, won the 2002 series title, and Ed Carpenter won the first Freedom 100 on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in 2003.
