Intrepid Travel has entered its first-ever sports sponsorship deal as the Platinum Partner of the Melbourne Stars for the Big Bash League (BBL) season. The travel company’s logo will feature prominently on the backs of the Melbourne Stars’ players’ BBL jerseys and training uniforms.

The partnership marks a significant step for Intrepid as it strengthens its ties with local communities and fosters shared experiences.

The travel company will also serve as the Presenting Partner of the Melbourne Stars’ First Nations Round, scheduled to take place against the Sydney Sixers on Thursday, 9 January 2025, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This partnership is seen as a strategic move for Intrepid as it plans to expand its small group domestic adventures in 2025.

“Sport and travel share a unique ability to unite people through unforgettable experiences. The BBL reaches millions of viewers worldwide, and as an iconic Melbourne brand, we’re proud to support a fellow homegrown institution and a world-class sport that unites people just as our travel experiences do,” said Intrepid’s ANZ Managing Director, Brett Mitchell.

The BBL is Australia’s premier Twenty20 cricket competition, reaching millions of viewers worldwide. This partnership provides a significant platform for Intrepid to connect with a broad audience, both domestically and internationally.

Intrepid Travel has been a world leader in responsible travel for 35 years, offering more than 900 trips designed to experience local culture. The company became B-Corp certified in 2018 and is the first tour operator with near-term science-based climate targets through the Science Based Targets Initiative.

Intrepid’s not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, has raised more than $16 million for more than 160 partners. In 2024, Intrepid’s CEO was named CEO of the Year at the Australian Executive of the Year Awards.

“It’s wonderful to have such recognisable Australian brands choosing to work with us during the BBL. The competition has become a staple every night in the lounge rooms of millions of Australians and if Sunday night is any indication, we are set for a huge tournament with more than a million people tuning into the Stars match against the Scorchers,” said Melbourne Stars General Manager, Blair Crouch.

This partnership aligns with Intrepid’s commitment to responsible travel and community engagement, and it is a significant step in the company’s growth strategy for 2025.
