It has been a while since the Cup Series raced at a drafting track. Now, they head to the biggest oval on the NASCAR schedule, Talladega Superspeedway. The Jack Link’s 500, a new name this year, will likely end in frustration, confusion, and wrecked cars.

NASCAR had an interesting race at Talladega in the playoffs. Interesting because the Damaged Vehicle Policy was put into question after officials made contradicting decisions to tow cars to pit road after the historic 28-car wreck that took place late in the race.

As usual at Talladega, there are great paint schemes this weekend. Let’s get away from the racing and talk about the art we’ll see on Sunday.

Kyle Busch No. 8 Nicokick Chevy

Image via NASCAR.com

This week, a new sponsor for Kyle Busch. Nicokick appears to be an online nicotine pouch retailer. Zone Nicotine Pouches are prominently displayed as one of Busch’s major partners this season.

The last year has been an explosion of nicotine pouch branding. They have naturally found a place in NASCAR which previously, of course, had strong ties with the tobacco industry through Winston. 8/10, unironically.

Chase Elliott No. 9 Amazon Prime Video Chevy

Image via NASCAR.com

Prime Video debuted a banger of a preview for their upcoming slate of five NASCAR Cup Series races. Chase Elliott will carry the Prime Video colors this weekend.

His teammate, Kyle Larson, also has Prime branding on his IndyCar ride. He also wrecked earlier today for the first time in an IndyCar. Blue and white is never bad, 9.25/10.

AJ Allmendinger No. 16 Grizzly Nicotine Pouches Chevy

Image via NASCAR.com

Another nicotine pouch brand, Grizzly, has gotten close with Kaulig Racing. That partnership has expanded from Ty Dillon’s No. 10 car to AJ Allmendinger’s No. 16.

This car is going to look so good at Talladega. Black and bright green like this – what is there not to like? 8.5/10.

Cole Custer No. 41 Haas/Andy’s Ford

Image via NASCAR.com

A little frozen treat for NASCAR fans at Talladega. Cole Custer has taken his Andy’s Custard sponsorship to Haas Factory Team and the Cup Series.

The bright colors and fun vibe of the Andy’s car is always great. Not sure how you can hate on this car, either. It’s literally frozen custard. 8/10.

Image via NASCAR.com

This is one of those so ugly it’s good paint schemes. John Hunter Nemechek carries the plaid of Jack Link’s for the Jack Link’s 500. This is part of the Dollar Tree branding but we know the squatch is the star, here.

The Legacy Motor Club cars are actually really great this week. If only we could see that translate to performance. Sorry, I said I wouldn’t talk about racing. 7.5/10.

Erik Jones No. 43 Massey Motor Freight Toyota

Image via NASCAR.com

This almost looks like a lost Coca-Cola scheme when you first look at it. But Massey Motor Freight is carrying these red and silver colors this week on Erik Jones’ car.

NASCAR at Talladega is all about mean-looking cars going up against a mean-looking track. I think this paint scheme looks pretty mean. 8.5/10.

Cody Ware No. 51 Arby’s X AC BBQ Sauce Ford

Image via NASCAR.com

The Arby’s partnership continues to work for Rick Ware Racing and Cody Ware. These paint schemes are recognizable and, honestly, pleasing to look at.

With AC Barbecue Sauce joining in, this scheme takes on a dark, smoky look this week. It will fit in perfectly with NASCAR weekend at Talladega.

Ryan Preece No. 60 Kroger/Celsius Ford

Image via NASCAR.com

While this isn’t much of a change to their other schemes, Ryan Preece gets his first Celsius car this week with Kroger on the hood. The No. 60 looks really good in this design.

I think the signature RFK logo/design they put above the rocker panels. Even just a touch more color than, say, the Kaulig version of this car has makes a pretty big difference. 7.5/10.

Anthony Alfredo No. 62 Fortify Building Solutions Chevy

Image via NASCAR.com

I am happy to see Anthony Alfredo land a ride in the Cup Series again. He is more than capable of running well at Talladega, but his paint scheme is what I’m more concerned with.

This is a great-looking Chevy. Something about the number font and color, there is white space, but it is filled with sponsor logos – this is a well-executed design. Truly pleasant to look at and will be great on the track. 9/10.

Daniel Suárez No. 99 Wendy’s Frosty Chevy

Image via NASCAR.com

This paint scheme might be a little difficult to look at for some NASCAR fans. If you get dizzy easily, maybe Daniel Suárez’s No. 99 Chevy isn’t for you this weekend.

But if you love Wendy’s Frostys, then this is the perfect car for you. Colorful, fun, there is almost no wasted space – really great work. 8.75/10.

Watch NASCAR race at Kansas today: TV channel, time, schedule

I think they’re sweeping up the confetti in Daytona’s Victory Lane and here we are, after Sunday, a third of the way through NASCAR’s Cup Series schedule.

And this particular 2025 milepost is pretty much smack-dab in the middle of the U.S. of A., in the Kansas City you’ll find west of the river, in Kansas — not the K.C. with the Chiefs and Arrowhead Stadium, but the Kansas City with Legends Field and the Kansas City Monarchs of the independent American Association of Professional Baseball.

And not to say the area around Kansas Speedway has been NASCARized, but you’ll also find a Bob Evans, Bass Pro and Great Wolf Lodge Water Park.

This weekend, the Xfinity teams get a well-earned breather after racing 12 straight weekends to start the year. That’s a first for the Saturday guys.

But it’s still a tripleheader weekend, with the ARCA Series joining the Truck Series as a preliminary for Sunday’s main event, which will have to work hard to match last spring’s Kansas race. They had to go three numbers right of the decimal before calling Kyle Larson a winner.

It made Ross Chastain’s victory over William Byron last fall, by nearly four tenths of a second, look like a rout.

You can watch it all this weekend and here’s how.

Friday: ARCA race at Kansas, and Tide for the cleanup

8 p.m.: ARCA Series, Tide 150 (FS1).

Saturday: A busy day at Kansas for Truck Series, Cup Series

2:05 p.m.: Truck Series practice (FS2).

3:10 p.m.: Truck Series qualifying (FS2).

4:30 p.m.: Cup Series practice (Prime).

5:40 p.m.: Cup Series qualifying (Prime).

7:30 p.m.: Truck Series, Heart of Health Care 200 (FS1).

Sunday: Race 12 of NASCAR’s 2025 Cup Series season

3 p.m.: Cup Series, Advent Health 400 (FS1).

The following was what was supposed to be a Power Hour podcast from the show floor at AIMExpo. But no good deed goes unpunished, and the editor forgot how to work his new cordless microphones. Apparently, there’s a little symbol of a speaker with a strike through it that means mute. And this editor didn’t bring his glasses. So we didn’t get decent audio for the podcast. However, the conversation with Rob Greenwald, our resident F&I guru, and Alex Reyes, who is the business manager for Broward Motorsports of Palm Beach, was very insightful, so we were able to transcribe enough of it for this Q&A.

Rob Greenwald (left) and Alex Reyes from Broward Motorsports joined us at our booth at AIMExpo.

PSB: What does Rob Greenwald bring to Broward Motorsports?

ALEX REYES: Rob’s contributions are truly unique. He has extensive experience as a vendor, but what sets him apart is his ability to transition from a vendor role to that of a manager and coach. That’s what I appreciate about him — he knows how to motivate people and push the right buttons. Over the years, our relationship has evolved into a genuine friendship. He challenges us, and I like that. As someone with a growth mindset, I constantly strive to improve and innovate, and Rob never holds back. He’s a true coach, always pushing people — especially F&I managers — to go the extra mile.

PSB: Rob, you’ve been in this business for 40 years. Did you get a gold watch yet?

ROB GREENWALD: No one gives me anything! (Laughs) Yamaha did give me a watch for winning a championship, though — I’ve got a couple of those. But I do what I do because I love it. My passion lies in training, development, and finance and insurance is my specialty, and I have excelled in the ever-evolving retail world.

The industry has changed dramatically over the past three decades. Those who’ve been around for a while remember the days of floppy disks, green-screen computers, and basic F&I processes. Back then, we had very few products to sell, and our approach was completely different. Watching this industry evolve and being part of that transformation is something I take pride in.

I was there at the beginning when Ed Lemko talked about modeling the F&I department after the car business in the early ’90s. At the time, I was already in the auto industry and excelling as a trainer, but I didn’t love it. I was also pursuing my racing career when I saw an opportunity in the powersports sector. That passion led me here, and 30 years later, I’m still one of the leading voices in training and innovation.

PSB: Fast forward to today — where are we now? What has changed in the F&I segment for powersports in recent years?

GREENWALD: One of the biggest changes has been in technology. The products and services we offer today are leaps ahead of what was available in the ’90s and early 2000s. Consumer behavior has shifted, and the technology we use to deliver these services has created more opportunities to drive revenue and serve our customers effectively. However, not all dealers are capitalizing on these advancements. I still see only a handful of dealerships truly excelling in finance and insurance.

PSB: Alex, what do you see? How long have you been with Broward Motorsports?

ALEX REYES: I’ve been with Broward for 12 years — nowhere near Rob’s 30! (Laughs) When he started, I was still a kid.

We live in an instant-gratification culture, which makes it crucial to lead with knowledge. Historically, the F&I department has struggled with reputation issues. Many customers haven’t had positive experiences, but in a community-driven business like this, it’s vital to build lasting relationships, not just make sales.

I teach F&I managers to sell the ownership experience rather than just a machine. Customers aren’t buying a motorcycle or a boat — they’re investing in fun and lifestyle. The machine is simply the means to achieve that. When we present products that enhance their ownership experience — whether through maintenance plans or extended warranties — it adds real value.

Unfortunately, the automotive industry often pushes unnecessary products into powersports. But when we genuinely prioritize the customer’s needs, we help them save money and maximize their enjoyment. People will gladly spend when they recognize value, but if you focus solely on profits, you risk cutting corners and losing trust.

PSB: Some automotive dealerships take good care of their customers, too — don’t you think?

GREENWALD: I’ll play devil’s advocate here. One of the biggest mistakes I see in powersports is the tendency to overwhelm customers with too many products. Some dealerships take an approach where they just throw a bunch of options at buyers, hoping something sticks. The right strategy is to focus on a core selection of high-quality products — prepaid maintenance plans, extended protections, and warranty programs. Mechanical failure is the top reason for repossessions in powersports. People often can’t afford unexpected repairs, and unlike cars, motorcycles and boats aren’t necessarily essential for getting to work. That’s why I emphasize selling real value, not gimmicks. In the past, we didn’t have many F&I products. GAP coverage didn’t even exist in powersports until the late ’90s or early 2000s. Today, we have incredible offerings, but some dealerships still push unnecessary add-ons like fabric protection, just because that’s common in automotive.

ALEX REYES: I agree — it’s all about understanding the customer. Instead of bombarding them with unnecessary products, dealerships should conduct proper needs assessments. That way, we can tailor recommendations and ensure customers are making informed decisions. The key is to focus on solutions that genuinely enhance their ownership experience, rather than just throwing extras onto the deal.

A track full of history and high-speed thrills

Talladega Superspeedway, located in Lincoln, Ala., was born after a conversation between NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. and Alabama race fan Bill Ward led to the discovery of an old airfield in north Talladega County. The site was perfect with land, interstate access and millions of fans nearby. Construction began in 1968, and by 1969, Talladega was hosting its first race, starting a new chapter in NASCAR history.

Fans love Talladega for its high-speed thrills, unpredictable finishes and legendary infield parties on Talladega Boulevard. With steep banking and constant action, it’s a track where anything can happen. Add unique fan experiences like pit passes and signing the start/finish line, and it’s no wonder fans keep returning for more.
