CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – Two southeast Missouri athletes put pen to paper Thursday, signaling their collegiate athletic intentions.
In Jackson, senior Lillie Cole signed with Henderson State, a DII program in Arkansas.
Cole, who plans to major in sports medicine, spoke about her excitement to play college basketball and attend college in general.
“Once I visited there, I just knew it was home,” Cole said. “So for me, I met the team. I was able to look at the court and also I was able to be excited about reaching outside my bubble too, being five and a half hours away from home too, so I’m super super excited though.”
In Benton, Kelly senior Blaire Riley signed with Dyersburg State, a Tennessee DI JUCO for softball.
Riley, who set the all-time school record for home runs (19) was congratulated by State Senator-Elect Jamie Burger.
After recapping Riley’s impressive high school accolades, Burger presented a resolution to Riley and those in Kelly’s gymnasium, in honor of her achievements.
