CORVALLIS — Jade Carey is back at Oregon State.

After completing her final year of eligibility on the mat, the OSU gymnastics legend and U.S. Olympic star is joining the Beavers as a student assistant coach.

“This program has meant so much to me throughout my career and I am grateful to remain in a place that feels like home,” Carey said in a press release. “I’m excited to help the team and coaches however I can and look forward to seeing what this group can accomplish in the future.”

Carey, 25, is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time gold medalist at the World Championships. She competed with the Beavers from 2021-25, mixing in trips to major international competitions along the way.

Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, she signed with OSU in 2017 but deferred her enrollment until after the 2020 Olympics, held in 2021 in Tokyo after the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the games.

After a decorated collegiate career, Carey placed fourth in her final NCAA gymnastics championship appearance in April. She finished her NCAA career with four silver medals and two bronze at the championships.

Carey holds the OSU program records for event titles (168), perfect 10s (16) and highest all-around score (39.925) — a mark that is tied for fourth in NCAA history.

“Jade’s experience and passion for excellence are such an asset to our program and I’m excited to have her join our staff,” OSU head coach Tanya Chaplin said in the release. “Her contributions over the past four years have been instrumental in our growth and I know she will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our student-athletes.”
