But there may be a very small silver lining as far as the Lakers are concerned. All this downtime since their last game on Tuesday has given them the opportunity to be together and get in some valuable time on the court. In fact, head coach JJ Redick said their last three days have been their most productive three days of practice and workouts since they started training camp. The last week or so has been a nightmare for the greater Los Angeles area. Multiple wildfires, including the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, have ravaged the Southland and resulted in the loss of thousands of structures. While the death toll is reportedly “only” 24, that figure will surely rise as the full extent of the damage is looked at more closely. The situation has impacted the Los Angeles sports scene. The Los Angeles Rams’ NFL wild-card playoff game on Monday versus the Minnesota Vikings had to be moved to Arizona. The Los Angeles Lakers had home games originally scheduled for Thursday and Saturday postponed due to the wildfire situation.
JJ Redick says that the Lakers’ last three days in the gym have been their best three days of practice/workouts since the first three days of training camp. The Lakers have certainly needed to get in some work together on the court. After they won eight of 11 games, they lost back-to-back road contests to the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks, even though Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving both sat out the contest versus Dallas. L.A.’s defense, which had shown some real signs of improvement, regressed during that two-game skid.
