NASCAR issues big penalties after today’s race at Talladega Superspeedway

On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series raced at Talladega Superspeedway. It marked the third race at superspeedway track this season.

Both Joey Logano and Ryan Preece finished inside the top 5. Each of them drive Ford powered machines.

After the race, cars must pass inspection. Logano and Preece have both failed inspection for similar spoiler violations.

Logano Penalty: NASCAR declared Logano in violation of Section 14.5.8.E which details spoiler braces that are used as superspeedway events. Additionally, NASCAR noted Section 14.1.P which related to General Vehicle Assembly stating, “All fasteners must be securely fastened at all times during an Event.”

The No. 22 was found with a missing/loose bolt on the rear spoiler.

Preece Penalty: Officials noted they discovered “unapproved shims in the rear spoiler area.”

The No. 60 was found with three shims on the rear spoiler when the rulebook called for two.

Per the rules, NASCAR has disqualified both drivers from the race. Preece is relegated to a 38th place finish as Logano will be officially credited with 39th.

Both teams will have the option to appeal the disqualification.
