About 90 minutes before kickoff for the Giants home game against the Saints on Sunday, a small plane flew around MetLife Stadium tugging a banner behind it that read: “MR. MARA ENOUGH – PLZ FIX THIS DUMPSTER FIRE’’
Minutes before kickoff, 92-year-old Ron Freiman was on the phone with The Post reminiscing about the time he and two other fed-up Giants fans rented the plane that famously flew over Giants Stadium in 1978 during a game against the St. Louis Cardinals with a banner that read: “15 Years of Lousy Football – We’ve Had Enough!”
That maneuver was credited with being at least partial impetus for Wellington Mara, then the Giants co-owner, to revamp the franchise by hiring general manager George Young.
“They’re copycats,’’ Freiman, now living in Florida, said over the phone with a chuckle. “But I think it was a good idea. And, if they don’t improve, I’m going to get on my crutches and come back up there.’’
