SUN CITY, South Africa — Julien Guerrier seized a one-stroke advantage after completing the second round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge on Friday, with defending champion Max Homa trailing by two strokes.

Guerrier, who required nine playoff holes in his 230th tournament to secure his maiden victory on the European tour at the Andalucia Masters in October, delivered an impressive 4-under 68 despite challenging windy conditions at the Gary Player Golf and Country Club.

Homa held the lead for significant stretches of the day before consecutive double bogeys at the 16th and 17th holes wiped out his two-shot cushion.

Fellow Frenchman Romain Langasque and local favorite Ockie Strydom were just one stroke behind the leader.

“It’s an honor to finish under par in such tough circumstances,” Guerrier remarked. “Staying patient was quite a challenge.”
