Kamaru Usman scored one of his greatest wins in a bitter rematch against the ever-game Jorge Masvidal.
Unfortunately, Kamaru Usman‘s career is heading in a downward trajectory, as ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is currently riding a three-fight losing streak, with his last loss coming to Khamzat Chimaev in 2023.
Prior to that, Usman suffered back-to-back losses to Leon Edwards, one of which being the infamous headkick knockout, which was Usman’s first KO loss ever.
Having not fought since 2023, fans have been left wondering what is next for the former welterweight champion, with him seemingly eyeing up a fight against Sean Brady next.
The 37-year-old will be hopeful that he can have a career resurgence and put on another performance like he did against Jorge Masvidal on April 24, 2021.

Kamaru Usman folded Jorge Masvidal with crushing knockout blow
Usman and ‘Gamebred’ first met in July 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and their meeting at UFC 251 was the first to take place on Fight Island.
UFC 251 turned out to be the ninth-highest earning PPV event in UFC history, ranking above Conor McGregor vs Jose Aldo, despite the main event fight being relatively dull due to Masvidal stepping in on short notice.
As Masvidal stepped in on just over a week’s notice, the UFC afforded him a rematch just under a year later, this time in front of a packed arena at UFC 261.
Both fighters started out the rematch relatively hesitant as they both attempted to avoid each other’s big shots. Midway through the round, though, Usman landed a big takedown and controlled most of the rest of the round on the ground, landing some big shots.
MORE BLOODY ELBOW NEWS
A minute into round two, Usman landed one of the biggest right hands ever seen, landing flush on the chin of the challenger, resulting in one of the craziest knockouts of all time.
Jorge Masvidal is looking for a UFC comeback
Following back-to-back losses to Usman, Masvidal went on to lose two more fights in a row, subsequently leaving the UFC on a four-fight losing streak.
Since then, the 40-year-old has teased a potential comeback to the promotion, stating that he would like to make his return.
Following UFC London last month, Masvidal highlighted a fight against Leon Edwards as a perfect comeback fight, as they have a rivalry dating back to 2019 when Masvidal punched Edwards backstage at UFC London.

Street Fighter Death Sentence’s brief time in the win column ended this past weekend.
The Streetbeefs star – real name Maraji Johnson – lost four fights in a row before training with UFC legend Demetrious Johnson, who coached him to a shock submission victory in May.
‘Mighty Mouse’ was there as he looked to make it two wins in a row against YouTuber Zach Cray.
However, Death Sentence fell to 1-5 despite enjoying some early success against his 22-year-old opponent.

Death Sentence loses latest fight
Demetrious Johnson‘s fighter threatened early with a deep rear-naked choke attempt.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t get the grip right, and his opponent was able to wriggle his way to freedom.
When the fight returned to the feet, Death Sentence threw punches relentlessly without landing a single strike.
It quickly became apparent that the viral sensation was totally gassed out from all his fruitless efforts.
Zach Cray dodged more of his labored punches before unleashing a flurry of punches to close the show when Death Sentence got trapped against the fence.
MORE BLOODY ELBOW NEWS
The referee stepped in to wave the fight off when Death Sentence dropped to the floor and lay motionless while ground strikes were raining down on him.
After realizing he’d lost, Death Sentence punched a wall and stormed out of the fight arena.
Johnson kept it classy as he stuck around to raise Zach Cray’s hand to confirm his big win.
Death Sentence called out Jon Jones
Death Sentence got a little carried away after recording his first Streetbeefs win earlier this year.
The brawler outlined his UFC dream in a message to Dana White after winning for the first time.
Death Sentence also called out Jon Jones, who is regarded as the greatest fighter in MMA history.
“If he was in this room right now, I would swing on him,” he said about Jones in June.
“F— it. Come to Charlotte, and we can spar. The reason I haven’t talked s— about Jon Jones recently is because I’m going to focus on my opposition. But if Jon Jones was in this room, I would swing on him.
“I could take him out. I don’t have a grudge against him anymore like I used to. I just wanted to beat his ass because I’m like, ‘Bro, I deserve what he’s got. I want it.’
“So, I don’t got no beef with Jon Jones no more. But again, if he was in this room and he wanted to run it, we can do that. It’s on him, though.”

A Dana White step-in was asked if the UFC will follow boxing’s example after UFC Abu Dhabi.
The UFC’s return to the UAE had a handful of finishes. Most of the main card ended in decisions, like the main event between Robert Whittaker and Reinier de Ridder, but the undercard surely delivered.
In a featherweight bout, Fortis MMA’s Steven Nguyen made history when he knocked down Mohammad Yahya 8 times—6 times, officially, setting a new knockdown record in the premier promotion.
Referee Jason Herzog was criticized for not stopping the fight sooner, with Yahya’s left eye swollen shut at the end of round 2. The fight was called off between rounds and luckily, Yahya received a positive health update afterwards.
Still, Yahya’s eye looked horrific and one has to wonder how much damage a fighter should be allowed to take in the Octagon before it’s stopped.

UFC exec on implementing 3-knockdown rule: ‘I don’t think so’
It varies on the promotion, but in the sports of boxing and kickboxing, there is a 3-knockdown rule that would automatically stop a fight if a fighter is dropped three times in one round. This is to protect fighters from too much damage.
UFC’s Yahya was dropped six times in a round and eight times overall and the fight wasn’t stopped until after round 2 had ended.
Post-fight, UFC executive Dave Shaw was asked if a three-knockdown rule should be implemented in the UFC.
“I don’t think so,” Shaw said at the UFC Abu Dhabi press conference.

“I mean, the record was five and I don’t want to make a judgment on that.
“We’ve got one fight that we’re commenting on. We should be looking at a wide body of discussion evidence.
“I think we’ve all seen some pretty incredible fights over the years that are three rounds, that are five rounds that have three, four, five knockdowns. And they’re wildly entertaining.
“Doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s an extensive amount of damage,” Shaw explained.
Other UFC fights that have had multiple knockdowns
The previous record for most knockdowns in a single UFC bout was held by Jeremy Stephens and Forrest Petz.
‘Lil Heathen’ Stephens chopped the legs of former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez with kicks, knocking him down five times at UFC 215 in 2017.
In 2022, the greatest female fighter of all time, Amanda Nunes, got revenge on her rival Julianna Pena with three knockdowns in one round.
Former UFC title challenger Khalil Rountree Jr. had one of the best performances of his career against Eryk Anders in 2019, dropping the former football player four separate times across three rounds.

Becky Burke and her new Arizona women’s basketball staff have been out looking for the future of the program this summer. They had their first success on Friday when 2026 forward Priyanka Ponnam announced that she will be a Wildcat.
Burke went back to her roots in the Northeast to get her first verbal commitment for next year’s class. The 6-foot-2 Ponnam comes from Blair Academy, a prep school in Blairstown, NJ, The school, which bills itself as a “private, co-educational boarding school in north-western New Jersey,” plays in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League. The Bucs took the 2025 MAPL championship.
Ponnam started her high school playing career at George School in Newtown, Penn. where ESPN had her rated as a three-star prospect in the class of 2025. While ESPN has her surname misspelled, Prep Hoops also has her listed under the proper spelling of her name. That site has her playing for George School and the XGen travel program in the class of 2025.
Ponnam is not ranked by 247sports/Scout or on3/Rivals in either the class of 2025 or the class of 2026, although Rivals highlighted her as a player to watch in the New York area back in 2023. She is rated as a 3-star recruit in the class of 2026 by 247. She has also been noted by Prospect Nation for the class of 2026.
Prospect Nation only ranks the top 50 players in the class, but the site has her listed as a four-star recruit in the class of 2026. She is listed among the service’s Elite 150, which includes the ranked top 50 and another group of players who aren’t individually ranked but receive star ratings from the evaluators.
In the fall of 2024, Chris Hansen wrote on the Prospect Nation website that Ponnam “is a combo-forward we’ve seen impact the game both scoring and passing. When she’s working out of the high post, with her mid-range touch and ability to find cutters are on display. She’s comfortable hitting the trail three as well as showcasing her footwork in the post.”
Ponnam announced her move to Blair Academy in July of 2023 and was listed on NJ.com as a sophomore for the 2023-24 season. She plays club ball for Team Northeast.
She accounted for 7.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game in 26 games her sophomore year, according to NJ.com. She hit 2.2 shots per game from inside the arc and 0.7 shots from 3-point range that season.
As a junior, Ponnam was good for 12.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.8 blocks in 20.9 minutes per game, according to MaxPreps. She hit 48 percent of her shots from the field, including 41 percent from 3-point range. She connected on 72 percent of her free throws.
Ponnam had 1.7 turnovers and 0.8 personal fouls per game. MaxPreps also indicates that she had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.14, a steal-to-turnover ratio of 0.64, a steal-to-foul ratio of 1.42, and a block-to-foul ratio of 1.05.
During her two-year stint in New Jersey, she has contributed 10.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.7 blocks in 50 games. She hits 2.5 shots per contest from 2-point range and 1.3 shots from outside.
Ponnam has become a hot commodity of late. Arizona offered her over the summer according to social media posts by her club team. She also has announced offers from Purdue, Wake Forest, and Rutgers.
Ponnam is the second 2026 player to announce a verbal to the Wildcats, but she is the first for Burke. Arizona received a verbal commitment from 2026 Spanish guard Somto Okafor last November. However, that commitment was to the previous staff. Okafor is a star in the Spanish girls’ program, but only Arizona associate head coach Ashley Odom is following her on social media from the new staff. The current SMU staff continues to follow her. She plays for Segle XXI alongside Arizona freshman Mireia Jurado.
Highlights
Other highlights can be found on Ponnam’s HUDL profiles, which have film from as far back as 2019.

Bhopal: The city’s plan to transform its sporting infrastructure has a dual focus for now— to create ‘world-class’ facilities to nurture talent and to host prestigious competitions in its backyard. The sports department is establishing an extensive sports facility across 100 acres, with an investment of roughly Rs 1000 crores in Ratibad. A new international level rowing facility is planned at Upper Lake, and the housing board is developing a sports complex on 17 acres, allocating 200 crores for the project in question. The city currently features notable sports facilities, including a SAI Centre, four prominent hockey stadiums, Faith Cricket Stadium, Shrewsbury Cricket Stadium equipped with floodlights, and Tatya Tope Stadium equipped with modern athletic track and football ground and other games. An international-grade rowing centre will be established in the Upper Lake area of Khanugaon, following the chief minister initial approval. The planned facility, with an estimated cost of 7-8 crores, will be built on 5500 square feet of land. It will include a gymnasium, administrative offices, storage for 100 boats, and other facilities.Building work is expected to begin within a month of receiving official approval. The venue will serve as a training facility for athletes and host national and international events. The organisers plan to commence hosting competitions at this location by 2026.“We will be able to start the process of building the centre as soon as we get the permission. Our plan is to organise competitions here from 2026,” says deputy director, sports department, B S Yadav on the project. The new rowing centre at Upper Lake will feature modern amenities designed to international standards. The facility will accommodate both training sessions and competitive events. The storage capacity for 100 boats ensures adequate equipment availability for athletes. The gymnasium will provide essential strength training facilities, while the administrative block will manage daily operations efficiently. The MP housing board has announced plans for a substantial sports complex in Ayodhya Nagar. The sanctioned project will utilise 17 acres of former quarry land, where presently only a section is available for children’s play activities. The Housing Board aims to transform this space into a comprehensive sports facility. “We will soon issue a tender for the appointment of an architect for this project. A plan is being worked out to develop facilities for all major sports here, including a cricket ground, swimming pool, and badminton court,” said Rahul Haridas Fating, commissioner, housing board. The Ayodhya Nagar sports complex project represents a remarkable transformation of previously unused quarry land. The planned facilities will include multiple sporting venues suitable for various disciplines. The swimming pool will meet competitive standards, while the badminton courts will be designed for both recreational and professional use. The existing sports infrastructure in Bhopal already supports diverse athletic activities. The SAI Centre serves as a crucial training hub for aspiring athletes. The hockey stadiums too have historically contributed to developing talented players. The cricket stadiums, with their modern floodlight systems, enable day-night matches throughout the year. The sports department’s 100-acre development project aims to create an integrated sports ecosystem. The facilities will cater to both elite athletes and community sports programmes. The infrastructure will include training grounds, performance analysis centres, and support facilities for multiple sports disciplines. The housing board’s involvement in sports infrastructure development reflects a broader commitment to community wellness. The integration of sports facilities within urban planning demonstrates a holistic approach to city development. This strategy aims to make sports more accessible to residents while creating opportunities for professional athletic development. The timeline for completing these projects indicates a phased approach to development. The rowing centre’s targeted completion aligns with plans to host competitions by 2026. The careful planning ensures that each facility meets specific requirements for different sporting disciplines. These developments position Bhopal as an emerging sports destination in Central India. The comprehensive infrastructure is expected to support athlete development, host competitions, and promote sports culture in the region. The investment in these facilities could help in furthering sporting excellence and community engagement.

Mark Pope and his staff are starting to hone in on their top targets for the class of 2026 as official visits and list cuts begin to happen for players across the country.
That has not stopped them, though, from also getting a jump start on the class of 2027, however. With the Kentucky Wildcats already in the mix for several of the top recruits in the rising junior class, one relationship might help them sooner rather than later.
Baba Oladotun is widely considered the top player in the 2027 class, but that might not be the case for long.
Why so? Reclassification.
Rumors have been swirling around his recruitment about a potential reclass for the last few weeks, and in a recent conversation, Jacob Polacheck of KSR got a pretty direct answer about where it stands.
When talking with Baba’s father, Ibrahim, this is what he had to say regarding the reclass:
“We’re debating it, but it’s nothing guaranteed yet. Academically, it will be done, regardless of whether he’s playing basketball.”
If a reclass is to happen, it will be interesting to see where the Cats stand. With some positive momentum still happening with Tyran Stokes, would landing his commitment take Coach Pope and his staff out of this recruitment?
Only they know that answer at this point, but it will be interesting to watch moving forward.
NEW: Baba Oladotun is planning two visits as he weighs a reclassification into 2026, his father tells KSR+.
“We’re debating it, but it’s nothing guaranteed yet. Academically, it will be done, regardless of whether he’s playing basketball.”

Love Island USA alum Olivia Walker has found love outside the villa! The returning bombshell opened up on Love Island: Beyond the Villa and spoke about her new beau and how she’s really happy.
Olivia first appeared on Love Island Season 6. And she’s among the cast members starring in the brand new spinoff. The docuseries follows former islanders as they navigate their real lives. The show gives viewers the drama they want to see and a peek at what happens outside the fun and games of the villa.
Liv Walker is “happy” in her new relationship after Love Island USA
Fans were especially excited to see Kaylor Martin reunite with ex Aaron Evans. She’s admitted to still loving him but that doesn’t mean reconciliation. And it shouldn’t considering their toxic past.

But Kaylor and Aaron aren’t the only ones fans are watching. Australian bombshell Liv admitted on the first episode that she was “seeing someone new.” And while the series was filmed in the spring, Liv confirmed that they are still together now.
She appeared on SiriusXM’s Reality Checked and Dorinda Medley asked her, “Now we hear there might be a budding romance between you and an unnamed athlete. Can you give us any update on that?”
Liv smiled and confirmed, “I’m happy, in a relationship. We’re both living our best life.” She also clarified that she wasn’t purposefully trying to be cagey on the show.
“I feel like during the show it’s kind of early days so you see like different, I don’t get into detail with it just because I signed up for this life, but also because we’re still navigating it and working it out,” she explained.

She added, “I’m never hiding anything from the audience of wanting to keep my whole love life completely offline. That’s not the case. I just feel like we are just pick and choosing when to kind of share and making sure we’re happy, which we are with each other.”
It’s smart of her to tread cautiously. Going public can get quite complicated. But it seems like she’s pretty thrilled. “I’m excited when the time comes to share with everyone,” Liv said.
Love Island USA: Beyond the Villa is available to stream on Peacock.
