Katie’s achievements include being named in the ACT Women’s Team of the Century and becoming the highest run scorer in ACT Women’s history. She has amassed 3,698 runs at an average of 33.93, including five centuries and 26 half-centuries. Her highest score was an unbeaten 140 against Victoria in the 2023/24 season. She also took 46 catches, showcasing her all-round contribution to the team.
Since joining the Meteors, Katie has been one of the team’s most consistent players, playing a crucial role in the side’s continued growth and success. Over her time with the team, she has played 121 matches for Cricket ACT, including 94 in the WNCL and 22 in the Australian Women’s T20 competition. Her influence has extended beyond her on-field performances, helping to shape the culture and development of the team for future generations.
Reflecting on her time with Cricket ACT, Katie expressed gratitude for the opportunities and support she received. “(Cricket ACT) they’re the first team to give me that chance to play at this level and excel. I mean, there’s been so many people here that have helped my career and shaped it to where it’s come now. You know, from every coach I’ve had, Dorso, James Allsop, Oz, Jono, there’s been so many influences. I think as well being a small organisation has given me that ability to have a bit of a leadership role even without the captaincy. We’ve been involved in a lot of the organisational things and the development of the women’s game. I’ve sort of been able to grow outside of cricket as well here, which has been really nice.”
As she embarks on the next chapter of her cricket journey, we wish Katie all the best and look forward to seeing what the future holds for her. Thank you, Katie, for everything you have given to the Meteors and Cricket ACT!
Cricket ACT extends its heartfelt thanks to Katie for her immense contributions over the past 12 years, her legacy as a player and leader will not be forgotten.
Reflecting on her journey, Katie acknowledged the influence of former teammates who shaped her early career. “I really appreciate when I first came here getting to play with Kris Britt. She played international cricket and was such an experienced player and I think she taught me a lot. Just sort of the way to go about my game and I actually appreciated having her as a bit of a mentor in my early years.”
As captain, Katie has led with passion, dedication, and professionalism, always striving to bring out the best in her teammates. Her contributions have been instrumental in the Meteors’ continual improvement over recent seasons, and her leadership will be deeply missed.
Over the years, she has witnessed and contributed to the evolution of the women’s game. “I mean, the girls, skill-wise, have just come a long way in terms of the athleticism, and even their dedication to the game has been a big change from when I first started.”
Her deep connection to Cricket ACT and the people involved has made her journey especially meaningful. “Cricket ACT has had a huge impact on my career, obviously 12 years. Everyone involved—coaching, organisation, admin, groundskeepers, players—everyone has had a long-lasting effect on my career but also my life. I have very, very fond memories of playing for Cricket ACT and the people involved. I know I’m going to look back at my time here as a huge part of my life and probably the best years of my life.”
Her performances earned her selection in several Australia A squads over the years, further cementing her reputation as a high-quality player at the national level. She has played the second-most matches for Cricket ACT and has left an undeniable mark on the program.
After 12 incredible years, Meteors Captain Katie Mack has announced she will be finishing up her time with Cricket ACT. A cornerstone of the Meteors squad, Katie has been an outstanding leader, mentor, and performer, leaving a lasting impact on the team both on and off the field.
