KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) – Kearney High School awarded two grants from the Parker Foundation and the Ted Baldwin Advised Fund, administered by the Kearney Area Community Foundation on Tuesday.
The organizations awarded the school with a total of $18,901 – the funding will help the program purchase iPads (10th generation), Apple Pencils (second generation), Procreate App Licenses, Professional Development training, and other resources.
Charlotte Dvorak, graphic design and art teacher at KHS said the new funding will help enhance the learning experience for KHS students enrolled in graphic design courses.
”As technology has change we realize there’s a need for specially the iPads with procreate,” said Dvorak. “A lot of students have shown interest in wanting to illustrate digitally and procreate is the most updated and newest technology for that, so we really wanted to make sure a art department we found the resources to support students in that interest of theirs.“
She shared, she’s been teaching at KHS for 13 years and technology has changed over the years – they’re very fortunate to receive the funding for the program.
“We get to interact with a lot of different activities, clubs and sports within the school,” she said. “We help them create social media, flyers, posters and all their kind of of marketing materials so it is a really good way to cross curriculums and help different people in the school.“
Hannah Betke, senior at KHS said she didn’t become interested in graphic design until her sophomore year, but she’s grateful that she attends KHS because a lot of school don’t offer graphic design programs.
“If I went to a smaller school or more rural school I feel like I wouldn’t have those opportunities and I feel like I wouldn’t know that I love graphic design,” Betke said. “I want to do that for the rest of life, so I’m pursing it I am going to go to the University of South Dakota and I am going to major in Sports Marketing and Graphic Design.“
