LEXINGTON — The state football championships of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association are in full swing. The KHSAA finals have commenced at the University of Kentucky’s Kroger Field.

Quarterback Deuce Bailey accumulated 74 rushing yards and three touchdowns, steering the Bowling Green High School football team to a 37-20 triumph against Cooper in the Class 5A state championship match on Saturday.

An audience of 6,343 at Kroger Field witnessed Bowling Green (13-2) defeat Cooper in the Class 5A finale for two consecutive seasons, marking the Purples’ ninth state title.

Bailey, a Missouri State commit, achieved touchdowns on runs of 2, 14, and 6 yards, the latter extending the Purples’ lead to 34-12 with 8:40 left to play.

He also completed 13 of 18 passes for a total of 133 yards, while Trevy Barber caught seven passes for 99 yards.

Cooper’s quarterback Cam O’Hara completed 18 of 27 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns, with Jaiden Combs making seven catches for 72 yards and a touchdown.

Cooper (14-1) recorded 38 rushing yards on 22 attempts, while Bowling Green rushed for 238 yards, led by Montravion Graham with 88 yards over 12 carries. With a defensive performance that clinched the game in the fourth quarter, the Trinity High School football team successfully defended its title as Class 6A state champion.

Caleb Ricks’ 35-yard interception return for a touchdown provided the Shamrocks with a cushion, leading to a 42-23 win over Ryle in the Saturday’s Class 6A final at the University of Kentucky’s Kroger Field.

Ricks, who has committed to playing baseball at Notre Dame, secured his team-leading sixth interception of the season, returning it for a touchdown that provided the Shamrocks (13-2) with a 28-17 advantage with 7:35 to go.

Trinity now boasts a record 29 state championships, significantly ahead of second-place Highlands with 23.

In search of an offensive leader, the Christian Academy football coaching team took a risk during the summer by shifting an All-State defensive back to quarterback.

On Saturday, Connor Hodge reaped the rewards of that decision with a championship trophy.

Hodge rushed for four touchdowns and passed for 225 yards and two scores as Christian Academy triumphed over Union County 42-21 in the Class 3A championship match held at the University of Kentucky’s Kroger Field.
