KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The James Madison women’s soccer team’s freshman forward Ginny Lackey has earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-America Third Team, as revealed by the organization on Friday evening. Lackey is among 48 student-athletes nationwide to receive this honor, becoming the seventh Duke in program history to achieve All-America status, and the first since Teresa Rynier secured a place on the Third Team in 2010.

This recognition follows an outstanding debut season for Lackey in the purple and gold, brimming with achievements. She started 16 games, netting back-to-back braces in her second and third college matches, setting off a program record-tying nine straight matches with at least one goal. This scoring streak aligned with her JMU record of 11 consecutive matches with at least one point.

With a total of 12 goals and ten assists, accumulating 34 points this season, Lackey made history as the first player in JMU and the first since 2016 in the Sun Belt Conference to receive both Player and Freshman of the Year awards in the same season, in addition to earning First Team All-Sun Belt and All-Tournament Team honors. In a single season at JMU, she ranks tied for fifth in total points, tied for eighth in assists, and tied for ninth in goals. Furthermore, she became the eighth Duke to achieve double-digit assists in a season and recorded the 13th 30-point season in the program’s history.

Lackey is the first Duke since Julie Reule, who had 10 assists and 13 goals in 1994, to record at least ten goals and assists in a single season. Earlier this week, the freshman also became the first semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy in the history of the program.
