CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M’s Josh Prock has announced the addition of Mesa Community College forward Brookly Scurry for the 2025-26 basketball season.
“We are excited to add Brooklyn Scurry; a quality young lady to our roster for next season. Brooklyn is a young lady who will bring great size to our front line” said Prock “She is a versatile post player, her length and athleticism allows her the opportunity to guard multiple positions. Her speed and quickness are two areas that she utilizes on both ends of the court.”
Scurry comes to Canyon following two seasons at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona. The 5’11 forward saw time in 69 games over the past two campaigns for the Thunderbirds, averaging 10.9 minutes per contest as she shot 55.8% (148-of-265) from the floor to average 4.7 points per game. Scurry grabbed 184 rebounds to go along with 37 assists, 47 steals and 41 blocks.
The Thunderbirds went 53-17 during the past two campaigns, winning the NJCAA Region 1 Division II Championship in 2023-24 on their way to a third-place finish at the NJCAA National Championships. Last season saw Mesa CC make another trip to the NJCAA Championships as they finished the season 25-10 overall.
“Brooklyn is coming from a very good junior college program at Mesa Community College who consistently competes at a national level. She has had the opportunity to play in big games throughout her career and understands how to compete on a day in and day out basis” added Prock “One of the best traits Brooklyn has is that she understands what she does well and uses those strengths to fit within the team. Brooklyn is an amazing young lady off the court and will be someone who the Lady Buff fans will be excited to get to know.”
Scurry registered a standout prep career at Desert Oasis High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Brooklyn is the daughter of Moses Scurry and Tracy Johnson and she has two siblings, Malik and Diamond. She is expected to major in Psychology at West Texas A&M.
“Brooklyn Scurry has a high IQ of the game and has natural athleticism that contributes to her ability to defend the paint” said Mesa CC Head Coach Kori Stephenson “Brooklyn’s smile and strong faith will continue to support a winning culture, I am excited to follow her career with Coach Prock and the Lady Buffs.”
