The Bulldawgs’ girls’ basketball team didn’t play during the week, but coach Lori Selby wanted to nominate her for her play this season. Heading into Jan. 5, Pacheco averaged 10 points per game and shot 43% from 3-point range.Pacheco was one of 10 nominees from Las Cruces, Mayfield, Organ Mountain and Centennial. Fellow nominees included Organ Mountain boys’ basketball’s Nate Peete, Organ Mountain’s girls’ basketball’s Aliyah Martinez, Centennial girls’ basketball’s Alanna Pernault, Mayfield girls’ basketball’s Ceanna McKines and Aaliyah Salas, Las Cruces boys’ basketball’s Bird Nevarez, Centennial girls’ wrestling’s Paige Jorge, Las Cruces girls’ wrestling’s Alyssa Sedillo and Las Cruces boys’ wrestling’s Mateo Montoya.

The Las Cruces Sun-News will nominate several athletes for its Athlete of the Week award every week. The winner is decided by you, the readers. The award highlights the best athletics performances from Las Cruces-area schools from the previous week.
