Lauterborn’s Second Half Goal Leads to 2-2 Draw Against UMass
This is the second time the Big Green and Minutewomen have finished in a tie, with the last time being on Oct. 20, 1993, at Burnham Field.
Lykke Ihrfelt put Dartmouth on the board in the 18th minute of the game, scoring her first collegiate goal. In the 38th minute, UMass evened the score with a goal by Kaila Steen, assisted by Morgan Bellamy.
Less than nine minutes later, the Minutewomen took the lead for the first and only time with a goal by Peyton Costello, assisted by Annie McCaffrey and Kaila Steen. The Big Green trailed by one going into halftime.
The Big Green battled in the second half, outshooting the Minutewomen 8-3, with three being on goal. The momentum shifted in Dartmouth’s favor in the 56th minute, when Ellie Davidson connected with Lourdes Lauterborn to tie the game at 2-2. The two teams went back and forth in the remaining minutes, but the game finished in a draw.

Senior captain Kellie Sutton said she thinks the team has a lot of heart, which was evident in the fight the Big Green put up throughout the game.
“Going into the half, down 2-1, we fought our way back 2-2, and then we had lots of opportunities,” Sutton said. “…I think it just shows how much fight and love we have for this game.”
Dartmouth will head out west for two games in California next week. The Big Green will kick off their West Coast trip with a game against San Francisco on Thurs, Sept. 4 at 9 p.m. EST.
