OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Andrew Young III, a native of Lima, was welcomed into the National Softball Hall of Fame in October among nine inductees for the Class of 2024.

Known as “Mighty Joe,” Young earned this honor for his prowess in men’s slow pitch, recognized as one of the leading hitters during the 1970s and 1980s. He competed in eight national championships and was instrumental in his teams securing three national titles along with one runner-up position.

In 1980, he set a single-season home run record with 337 homers, tallying 764 RBIs, and achieving an impressive batting average of .716.

He was selected to three All-American Teams, which included two first-team honors while representing elite teams like Nelson Painting, Steele’s, and Jerry’s Catering in the men’s open and super divisions.
