Even though she is returning to competitive skiing, Vonn sees this event as a growth opportunity rather than a stressful competition.

“I’m thrilled to take another step forward this weekend,” she posted on Instagram on Friday. “It’s been 6 years since my last race, so I have a lot of gear to evaluate, to find my rhythm and get back into racing shape. I’m having a blast and want to keep enjoying it!”

Vonn’s last competitive event was in February 2019 during the world championships in Sweden, where she earned a bronze medal in women’s downhill.

At 34 years old, she made history as the oldest woman to win a medal in an alpine world championship and became the first woman to medal at six different world championships.

With a remarkable 82 World Cup victories, Vonn is among the most celebrated athletes in skiing history.

Her record for the most World Cup wins by a female skier remained unchallenged until January 2023, when it was overtaken by fellow American Mikaela Shiffrin.
