When our kids find a passion, we do our best to encourage them. If they want to master a skill, they might spend hours, days, or even months honing their craft. When it finally clicks, their sheer excitement is contagious. Chika Konoe is a 6-year-old skateboarding enthusiast living in California. She’d been practicing tricks with her older brother, Sojiro, and wanted to land a kickflip. Her dad, Yuya Konoe, set up a camera in the garage to record Chika practicing. She landed herself up and flipped the board with her feet, then landed perfectly. The moment brought on a slew of emotions.
Chika Celebrated Her Kickflip With Happy Tears.
Video of the sweet moment amassed more than 12 million views on Instagram. Yuya grabbed Chika and pulled her into his arms after she mastered the kickflip and the pair cheered. And then, the tears began to flow. Emotion overcame the father and daughter, who both felt so proud of her accomplishment.
It made her brother proud, too. He told Good Morning America, “I just love the process that she’s going through.” Sojiro said. “I think that girls and boys are just capable of equal things.”
The video made many people emotional.
This person envied the family. “God, I was raised by wolves. Good job, protect your kid at all costs.”
This person loved it. “Let’s goooooo never heard of or seen this kid but LETS GOOOOOO.”
Of course, it made some people cry.
“CRUUUUSSSHHEED IIIIIIIITTT!!!! I’m going to go wipe away my happy tears for a stranger now…”
And this person, too. “It wasn’t the kick flip that made her cry. It was the hug that said you were proud. Sobbing.”
Chika, you are amazing. Keep at it, friend. We can’t wait to see what’s next.
