Liz Catinella Casey ’11 (2025) – Skidmore College Athletics Hall of Fame
The most decorated goalkeeper in Skidmore field hockey history, Liz Catinella Casey was the defensive anchor behind one of the program’s most dominant eras. Over four years, she led the Thoroughbreds to three Liberty League Championships and four NCAA tournament appearances, including a trip to the 2010 Final Four.
A four-year starter who never missed a game, she made an impact from day one, holding the defense together with her vision, game intellect, and commanding presence. Her leadership helped build a corner unit that became a force to be reckoned with.
She ranked among the top goalkeepers in the nation each season, peaking in 2008 when she finished third nationally in both goals against average and save percentage. As a senior, she was named Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Region, and Third Team All-American.
By the end of her career, Casey had etched her name into the NCAA record books. In 2010 alone, she posted 20 wins (4th all-time in a single season) with a staggering .909 winning percentage. She held the second-most victories (66) in Division III history upon her graduation in 2011.
Casey is known not only for her elite athleticism and fearless play but also for her leadership, humor, and ability to unite the entire team. Her instinct to read the game and make clutch saves made her a linchpin of Skidmore’s defense. Her legacy is not only defined by statistics and accolades but also by the sense of belonging, strength, and joy she brought to her team.
