He added that Bittersweet has used more of it this year, which has made a difference.”Last year, we skied only about 600 people for the month of November…We didn’t see anybody December last year, so now that we’re actually skiing people in December, it’s a big gain this year,” Nick Ross, general manager of Bittersweet Ski Resort, said.News Channel 3 spoke to both Bittersweet and Timber Ridge ski resorts to check in on how business has been going so far this season.Luke Schrab, co-manager and co-owner of Timber Ridge Ski Resort, echoed a similar sentiment. With West Michigan experiencing a green Christmas and subsequent warm weather over 40 degrees, ski resorts are working to keep skiers coming.”This year has been great compared to last year. We’re probably a month ahead ahead of where we were last year at this time,” Schrab said. “The hard part is when all the natural snow melts; people aren’t thinking as much of skiing and snow tubing. We try to keep it out there and social media…Just keeping it present in their mind that we can make our own snow.”While the conditions for skiing are less than ideal, they beat last year’s conditions.Ross said they use a chemical called Sno-Max that mixes with pre-made snow, allowing it to bond better when making man-made snow.
