Man arrested after shooting on Miramar trail

A 47-year-old man was arrested for shooting another man on a trail in Miramar Wednesday night.

SAN DIEGO — A man was arrested after shooting at another man on a trail in Miramar Wednesday night, according to the San Diego Police Department. The incident occurred at approximately 9:50 p.m. at a trail located at 10000 Maya Linda Road.

Police said a 47-year-old man fired two rounds from a handgun at a 23-year-old man on the trail. The victim suffered a grazing gunshot wound to his lower torso during the incident. 

After the shooting, the 23-year-old bit off the tip of the shooter’s middle finger in self-defense during a physical struggle, according to SDPD. 

Both men were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the suspect was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon charges, and the firearm used during the shooting has been recovered. 

Authorities have not released any information regarding the motive behind the shooting or the relationship, if any, between the two individuals involved.

Northeastern area detectives are handling the investigation.
