TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – An alleged scheme to return an item that was bought with fake cash has landed a Fort Worth man in the Smith County Jail. Edwards attempted to return the item, a 9 lawnmower, at the Tyler home improvement store location Saturday. The arrest affidavit says the staff learned from the Longview Home Depot that Edwards had bought the tool earlier that day with counterfeit bills.Edwards is also held on two outstanding warrants from the DFW area; one for theft of property and another for forgery of a financial instrument >K<0K. Tyler police arrested Edwards after the store’s report, believing him to be attempting to steal money from the store through a counterfeit money scheme.Copyright 2025 KLTV. According to a document KLTV requested from Smith County, the charge stems from a fraudulent item return at Home Depot.
