Eight members of the South Prairie eSports team qualified for state: Joseph Berg and Langdon Zeitlow in Mario Kart; Joseph Berg in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate; Aiden Tofteland and Jack Reyes in Fortnite; and Anna Marmon, Stella Schneider, Gavin Nesson and Ace Erickson in Minecraft Bed Wars.
The tournament, organized by Fenworks, will include eight disciplines for its participants including: chess, Fortnite, League of Legends, Mario Kart 8, Minecraft Bed Wars, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Valorant.
The South Prairie Royals eSports team has 13 members, and is managed by Kayla Bickel and Konnor Keysor.
“We have found that it’s been a great addition to our school and it is a great way to get more students involved in activities,” Bickel said.
Competitors from schools in Minot, Stanley, Kenmare and New Town will be taking part in the annual clash. They will be joined by students from South Prairie who launched their eSports team this year.
Students from across the state are descending on the campus of the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks Friday and Saturday for the North Dakota Esports State Tournament.
The main stage matches for the championship bracket will be livestreamed on YouTube and Twitch beginning on Saturday.
