Marlon Wayans Recalls the Time a Stranger Joined His Family Group Chat

Marlon made a cameo in Damon’s new sitcom Poppa’s House, which he explained only happened because he begged Damon for work. Damon added that their sister Kim had to direct the episode as she’s the only one who could get him to focus. “Then people change their numbers. So Keenan changed his number. Some new person got Keenen’s number,” Marlon told PEOPLE. “On our family group chat, and everybody’s like, ‘Who are you? Phil, who’s this guy?'”Damon added that family members on the East and West Coasts make the group chats even funnier because people join in on the comedy at different times. However, he explained how Keenen’s actions inadvertently led to someone joining the chat. Marlon Wayans revealed that a stranger had once joined the Wayans family group chat, and it was all because his eldest brother Keenen changed his phone number.”There’s like four of them because there’s always one person that’s like, ‘Please just get me the hell out of here,'” Marlon told PEOPLE. “Damon’s daughter Kyla [Wayans] was trapped in one of our group chats, and she was so mad, and we just kept texting just because we know it [gets] on her nerves.”In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Marlon and his brother Damon spoke about all the group chats their family has and how hectic they can be. According to Marlon, there are several group chats within the family, and some of them have annoyed people like Damon, who said he had to mute one. “We hired Kim to direct this only because she’s the only director that can check Marlon and get him to just,to focus. His lack of focus is part of his brain. But we are making a show, and it’s only 22 minutes long, so we need to bring in the big guns. Because Kim with a whistle go, ‘Marlon,’ and he go, ‘All right,'” Damon told PEOPLE.
