COLUMBIA, Mo. – Nineteen University of Missouri track and field student-athletes have qualified to compete at the 2025 NCAA Track & Field West Regional Championships, which will take place at E.B. Cushing Stadium in College Station, Texas, May 28-31.

Headlining the qualifiers is Kristi Perez-Snyman, who captured Mizzou’s first-ever conference women’s high jump title with a school-record clearance of 1.90m (6-2.75) at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 16. Perez-Snyman enters NCAA competition ranked third in the region. She will be joined by fellow high jumper Claudina Diaz, who qualified with the ninth-best mark in the field after clearing 1.84m (6-0.5).

Additionally, Valentina Barrios headlines a deep women’s javelin group after earning a silver medal at the SEC Championships with a school-record throw of 58.20m (190-11), qualifying with the third-best mark in the West. She leads a strong contingent including Val Galligan, Kaesha George and Morgan Cannon, who each secured a spot in the top 48 regional qualifiers.

Distance standout Monica Wanjiku will double in the 5000m and 10,000m, with a top-10 regional ranking (sixth) in the 10,000m. She’s joined by Rahel Broemmel in the 5000m. Sprinter Alicia Burnett continues her dominant campaign with qualifications in both the 100m and 200m.

On the men’s side, Sterling Scott (triple jump, 10th), Sam Innes (hammer throw, 10th), and Callan Saldutto (javelin, sixth) all bring top-10 regional rankings into the regional championship weekend.

Drew Rogers (10,000m), who impressed with a 12th-place finish at the SEC Championships last weekend, Steven Marks (100m), Lasse Funck (800m) and Skylar Coffey (shot put, discus) will also represent the Mizzou’s men’s team at the Regional.

The NCAA West Regional Championships serve as the gateway to the NCAA National Championships, with the top 12 finishers in each event advancing to Eugene, Oregon, competing June 5–8.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Over 250 NCAA member institutions sponsor Division I track and field teams, and each year, these teams hope to compete in the championship meet. With over 20 events for both men and women, the championship meet will cap off an exciting outdoor season. 

The NCAA first rounds run Wednesday, May 28, through Saturday, May 31. Both the DI men’s and women’s first rounds are held simultaneously.

The meets will be held in two locations for the east and west regions. The NCAA East first round will be located in Jacksonville, Florida, with North Florida serving as the host school. The NCAA West first roundwill be located in College Station, Texas, with Texas A&M serving as the host school.

The top 12 competitors from each individual event and the top 12 teams from each relay event advance from each first round. The list of qualifiers from each event contested in the first rounds will be announced by 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 1. The final list of the championship competition participants will be announced by 3 p.m. ET on Tuesday, June 3.

Junior Sha’Nard Walker and Freshman Xavier Bogan have been nothing short of incredible for the Wildcats this season.

Walker has broken a  B-CU record in the 200m and been nationally ranked. He’s also had several first place finishes on the year. Additionally, Bogan has had several first place finishes in the long jump and been nationally ranked – he’s also come up strong in the triple jump.

The Walker/Bogan duo will compete in the East First Round of the Track & Field Championships in the 200m/400m and long jump.

Shanard Walker currently sits in the 18th spot in the 200m with a seed mark of 20.44 and 19th in the 400m with a seed mark of 45.73. Xavier Bogan sits 25th in the long jump with a seed mark of 7.70m.

Coach Garon Jackson is proud of his team and looks forward to more success.

“Shanard Walker has shown the hard work and desire to be on top of the 200m/400m nationally”, he says. ” I’m happy he decided to move up to the 400m after indoor season because it made him a better all around athlete. I expect big things from him at the NCAA Track & Field East Regionals in Jacksonville.

Assistant coach Courtney Walker is very proud of Xavier Bogan in the field. “For Xavier to make it this far as a freshman is truly a testament to the hard work he has put in this year”, she says. “I’m excited and looking forward to see how he finishes the rest of the season.”

Hope College’s Sara Schermerhorn will race in the national final in the women’s outdoor 400-meter run for the second consecutive season.

The junior from Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City West HS) qualified on Friday by clocking the sixth-fastest time during prelims at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, near Cleveland.

Schermerhorn’s 55.06-second effort put her in the nine-runner final on Saturday, May 24, at 2:30 p.m. Watch the race live on ncaa.com.

Macalester University (Minnesota) freshman Ariella Rogahn-Press topped the field with a prelim run of 53.88 seconds, one of two sub-54-second times. Emory University (Georgia) senior Eva Carchidi went 53.97.

Schermerhorn seeks her second career All-America distinction in the event and her fourth All-America accolade of the season. 

The exercise science major finished fifth in the nation in the 400 as a sophomore and earned All-America First Team honors.

On Thursday, Schermerhorn claimed All-America Second Team accolades in the 200-meter run after placing 11th during qualifying.

In March, Schermerhorn placed seventh in the nation in the 400 meters and ninth in the 200 meters at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

 

GENEVA, Ohio – Junior Ignatius Fitzgerald of the St. Olaf College men’s track and field team placed ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships to conclude his season on Friday afternoon at the SPIRE Institute.

Running in his first national meet in track and field, Fitzgerald finished ninth in the 12-runner final in 9:08.67 to earn Second Team All-America honors and finish one spot out of the first-team spots. The junior was fourth midway through the race before dipping to 11th with one lap to go but moved up two spots on the final lap to secure ninth place.

Fitzgerald was one of eight runners from the North Region in the 12-runner field after posting the No. 9 time in the prelims (8:59.51) the day before. This year marked the third season in a row with an Ole in the final of the event after Will Kelly ’24 finished 10th in 2023 and fourth in 2024.

Junior Kevin Turlington will complete St. Olaf’s showings at the meet in the final of the 5,000-meter run at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 24.
