New athletic training facility

Plans are for an additional 13,000 square feet of street-level, mixed-use commercial space and an outdoor plaza for public enjoyment near the southwest corner of McKinley Avenue and King Drive. The facility will include a 290-space parking structure. “This is extremely, extremely important and really a great day to fill out the northeast section of the Deer District here with a number of partners. The Milwaukee Bucks and MATC are partnering, bringing more opportunities for young people,” said Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson.

A news release says MATC envisions a 28,000-square-foot double-court gymnasium that seats up to 1,000, a fitness center, locker rooms, concessions, meeting rooms and other amenities to primarily serve MATC’s fitness and health programs and athletics, including women’s basketball, men’s basketball and women’s volleyball. The training facilities will be available for all students and staff.

New MATC athletic training facility “I think it gives it more notoriety to our athletic program. We are here at the Deer district we are in the right place here in Milwaukee from MATC so we are really excited about this,” said MATC President Anthony Cruz. “We’ll have a couple basketball courts, have the capacity to hold a thousand spectators. So when our students are playing their basketball games or volleyball games, they’ll be able to have students from the community from the college go see them.” New MATC athletic training facility The development will be located on vacant land between W. McKinley, W. Juneau and N. Vel R. Phillips avenues and N. King Drive. The entire project would encompass just over 340,000 square feet and include 269 market-rate apartments owned by the developer above the athletic facility.  Construction is expected to begin this summer and take about 18 months.
