McNeese State Univ. basketball manager Amir Khan has become a “near-overnight celebrity in American sports” and has continued bringing in NIL deals that “should extend” even though McNeese is out of the bracket. McNeese staffer Reed Vial said that he took “135 calls in the previous two days concerning Khan’s NIL deals” as hundreds of businesses have “expressed serious interest in capitalizing on a feel-good story.” He has a total of 12 NIL deals including Buffalo Wild Wings, TickPick and TurboTax. There has never been a manager in college sports who “earned legitimate money off his name, image and likeness.” Vial said that Khan’s earnings have “easily soared into the six figures.” Khan will complete his degree this fall in sports management and is expected to join coach Will Wade’s staff as a graduate manager later this year at N.C. State. But his exact role is not known yet (CBSSPORTS.com, 3/22).
