BOSTON – Continuing a four-game road trip, the Boston University men’s basketball team will visit UMass Lowell on Saturday with a 2 p.m. start time.

The Terriers will meet their third America East opponent following an 80-74 OT win vs. UAlbany and 75-71 victory at UMBC. They will now face a River Hawk squad that is riding a 13-game home win streak, tied-for-11th longest nationally, and a four-game overall win streak thanks Wednesday’s 78-67 win vs. Stonehill. 

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • Nine Terriers have scored in double digits so far this season with sophomore Kyrone Alexander accomplishing the feat seven times, including three 20+ point performances, for a team-high 13.4 ppg. Freshman Ben Defty (5.4 ppg) has the longest active streak at three straight contests.
  • Graduate student Miles Brewster is second in scoring at 9.8 ppg with 2.1 apg and 1.6 spg, while sophomore Michael McNair ranks third at 9.5 ppg.
  • Last Friday at Merrimack, junior Otto Landrum became the fifth Terrier to dish out at least five assists in a game this season with a career-high seven helpers. Junior Ben Roy leads BU at 2.4 apg thanks to a seven-assist performance against Thomas College.
  • BU ranks 51st nationally with a positive 6.6 rebound margin with five Terriers averaging at least four rebounds. Senior Malcolm Chimezie (8.5 ppg) leads BU at 5.8 rpg ahead of Alexander (5.1 rpg) and sophomore Matai Baptiste (4.3 rpg).
  • BU is 2-3 away from home with two wins at the UMBC multi-team event against the host Retrievers and two-time defending MEAC champion Howard.
  • The Terriers share two opponents so far with the River Hawks. The Terriers own a 78-50 win vs. Dartmouth and is looking to bounce back from last Friday’s 64-61 loss at Merrimack, while UML went 2-0 with 92-83 victory over the Big Green and 81-74 win against the Warriors.
  • The Terriers are averaging 70.1 ppg and 44.4 FG% while holding opponents to 68.5 ppg and 42.8 FG%.

SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL

  • The same five River Hawks have started all 13 games with 6-foot-6 guard Quinton Mincey owning a team-high 16.5 ppg with 3.0 apg.
  • A 6-foot-7 forward, Max Brooks nearly averages a double-double at 15.3 ppg and team-high 7.8 rpg alongside 2.6 bpg.
  • 6-foot-3 guard Martin Somerville (12.9 ppg) and 6-foot-1 guard Yuri Covington (11.3 ppg) also average double figures in points with 6-foot-8 forward Cam Morris III close behind at 9.5 ppg. 
  • UML is 4-0 against in-state schools, highlighted by 96-83 win at UMass and 81-74 victory vs. Merrimack.
  • Besides defeating the Warriors, UML owns key home wins against Quinnipiac (80-70) and Dartmouth (92-83) along with 69-62 victory over LIU. 

SERIES HISTORY

  • BU leads the all-time series, 6-5, with a 5-5 mark since the River Hawks replaced the Terriers in the America East in the summer of 2013.
  • UML has won the last two meetings, 71-63 at BU in 2023 and 68-60 at home in 2022. 
  • In 2023, the River Hawks owned a 46-25 halftime lead and held off a BU rally for the eight-point win with a 10-4 advantage in made 3-pointers and 17-11 lead in made free throws.
  • Yuri Covington and Cam Morris III went a combined 18-for-26, including 9-for-13 3FG, en route to a combined 53 points, while Brewster and Landrum led BU with a combined 30 points.

LOOKING AHEAD

  • BU will conclude non-conference by visiting Maine on Sunday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m.
  • The Terriers lead the all-time series, 61-42, dating back to 1903.
  • The Black Bears won last year at BU, 74-65.
