The Wheeling University Men’s Swim Team will look to regroup as they prepare to race against a familiar Mountain East Conference foe, the Fairmont State Falcons, on January 18th inside the McDonough Center. The meeting time is still to be determined but will be announced closer to the event.
Individually, The Cards brought home one gold, two silver, and a bronze medal. In the 50-yard Freestyle, Macleod fell short of the gold by just six milliseconds, finishing with a time of 21.97. Then, Killic and Macleod competed against each other in the 100-yard Freestyle. Sarp Killic ended up beating out his teammate and touched the wall first. Nathan Reigal competed and placed third in the 500-yard Freestyle, recording a time of 5:29.30.
Hickory, N.C- It may be a new year, but the Wheeling University Men’s Swimming Team (8-3), (2-1) has plans to continue their strong season. They opened the calendar year with a road trip to North Carolina and faced off against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in a dual meet. Despite taking home five medals, it would not be enough as the Cardinals would fall 136-47 on the road.
Wheeling started and ended their day on high notes. They set the tone early and picked up a gold medal in the 200-yard Medley Relay with their A-Team, consisting of Euan Macleod, Gustav Lofqvist, Evan Yost, and Brian Kirby. They beat out the Bears by two seconds with a time of 1:40.42. To close the meet, they placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. The Cardinals were only six seconds away from the win as Sarp Killic, Nate Yost, Alberto Kofinke, and Nathan Reigal were credited with the silver medal.
