Men's Tennis Falls to No. 25 Michigan in First Spring Match

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Ball State men’s tennis team (0-1) fell to 25th-ranked Michigan (1-0) Saturday afternoon at the Varsity Tennis Center. 
 
The Cardinals dropped the doubles point to the Wolverines, but it wasn’t a complete loss. Nathaniel Webster alongside newcomer Anthony Shalakov were knotted 4-4 at the conclusion of doubles play and were up 40-30 when it ended on court No. 3. On the top court, Jacks Lancaster and Mason Tran took two games from Bjorn Swenson and Gavin Young but ultimately fell 6-2. The Wolverines also won at the No. 2 spot to clinch the first point. 
 
In singles, the Maize and Blue took all six singles courts from the Cardinals. Drew Hayward won his second frame versus Will Cooksey 7-6 but ultimately Cooksey took the first set (6-1) and then the tiebreaker (12-10) as well for the win. 
 
The Ball State men’s tennis team continues spring action when it faces Big Ten foe Indiana on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 4 pm ET.
