NEW YORK, N.Y. – With a standout performance claiming first place in six events, the Princeton men’s track and field team kicked off the indoor season at the Rutgers Holiday Classic in New York City on Friday.

A group of three Tigers dominated the 3000m, with Harrison Witt taking the top spot with a time of 8:12.04. Jacob Nenow placed second with a time of 8:14.66, while first-year athlete Marcello Parra finished third with a time of 8:20.81. 

Parra also secured first in the mile race, clocking in at 4:10.22. Nenow joined him on the podium for third place with a time of 4:15.03.

In the Distance Medley Relay, the squad featuring Steven Hergenrother, Karl Dietz, Franco Parra, and Sam Rodman clinched first place with a time of 10:08.6. 

Rodman also triumphed in the 1000m, finishing in 2:25.80.

Karl Dietz emerged victorious in the 600m with a performance of 1:20.42, securing his spot as sixth all-time in the program’s history. 

Joe Licata took home gold in the shot put with a distance of 18.54, which holds the fourth-best mark in the program’s records. Casey Helm also earned a podium finish, taking third with a throw of 17.70. 

Avery Shunneson finished second in the weight throw, registering a measurement of 19.05.

Zachary Della Rocca clocked in third in the 60m dash, achieving an impressive time of 6.90. 

Three Tigers achieved new personal records during the season opener. Easton Tan posted a 7.10 in the 60m for a personal best, while Joey Grant also surpassed his previous best in the 300m with a time of 34.18. Vijay Krishnamoorthi secured a new personal record as well, finishing the 1000m in 2:29.03.

Princeton commenced competition this evening at the Penn Opener and will continue tomorrow with heptathlon, high jump, and pole vault events in Philadelphia.
