ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men’s wrestling team will take to the mats for the first time in 2025 this weekend and they will have their hands full when they do it. Gannon will compete in the Glenville State Quad on Sunday, January 5.

All four teams competing in the Glenville State Quad are ranked. The Golden Knights come in with a 2-1 dual record and are ranked 11th in the latest The Open Mat rankings and 22nd according to the NWCA poll.

The host Pioneers come in ranked second in the NWCA rankings and fourth according to The Open Mat. Lander is eighth and 13th, respectively, while Grand Valley State comes in at 12th and 25th, respectively.

Gannon opens the day against Lander at 10:00 a.m., followed by duals against Glenville State and Grand Valley State.

All four teams also competed in the Midwest Classic in December. Glenville State finished third in the 43-team field, Lander was sixth and Grand Valley State eighth. Gannon came in 18th and had four place winners.

Head coach Tom Boyd fields a lineup that has six nationally-ranked wrestlers, led by Dorian Crosby (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) who is ranked sixth at heavyweight by The Open Mat and eighth by the NWCA. A grad transfer and two-time Div. I national qualifier at Bucknell, Crosby led Gannon’s four medalists at the Midwest Classic, coming in fifth.

Patrick Jackson (Harpers Ferry, WV/Spring Mills High) placed sixth at 174 lbs. while Kenny Kiser (Meadville, Pa./Saegertown) was seventh at 149 lbs. and Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) eighth at 133 lbs. Kiser was competing for the first time this season.

Echevarria, Jackson and Crosby could face three ranked wrestlers. None faces a bigger challenge than Echevarria at 133 lbs. The redshirt junior could potentially face top-ranked Gavin Quiocho of Glenville State, No. 2 Christian Davis of Lander, and No. 9 Jak Keller of Grand Valley State. Quiocho was the national champion in 2022-23 and finished second last year.

Gannon will actually have a contingent of wrestlers compete the day before. Boyd will send nine wrestlers to Edinboro on Saturday to wrestle in the Kauffman Open.
