Marlboro, N.J. — The University of Minnesota women’s gymnastics team is ranked 18th in the annual WCGA Preseason poll, the organization announced on Tuesday.

The Gophers are coming off a 2024 season that saw them go 20-11 (6-3 Big Ten) and finish second at the Big Ten Championships. The Gophers went to the NCAA Regional Finals for the third time in the last four seasons and their No. 12 final ranking was the highest finish of any Big Ten team. 

The University of Oklahoma is the top women’s gymnastics team heading into the 2025 season, as voted on by the members of the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association. K.J. Kindler is the head coach for the Sooners, and she is assisted by Lou Ball, Tom Haley, and Ashley Kerr. Oklahoma will open the 2025 season at the Music City Collegiate Championship in Nashville, Tennessee on the weekend of January 3.

Returning fifth year senior Mya Hooten was named a WCGA First Team All-American on both floor and vault for the first time in her career in 2024. She was named First Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Championships Team, taking home three individual titles at the Big Ten Championships. She also won an NCAA Regional Title on vault and advanced to nationals as an individual.

Four Gophers earned All-Big Ten honors last season, including the fourth honor for Mya Hooten (First Team) and second for Gianna Gerdes (First Team). Lauren Pearl and Ella Sirjord both made the second team for their first career All-B1G honors. Pearl also returns in 2025 for her senior season. 2024 Big Ten balance beam champion Sarah Moraw also returns for her third season in the Maroon and Gold.

The Minnesota gymnastics team will host its intrasquad scrimmage on Friday, Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. inside Maturi Pavilion. The meet will be free of admission for fans and B1G+ will stream. The team’s first meet is set for Saturday, Jan. 4 against Central Michigan at Maturi Pavilion.
