Miracle to vault at Marietta

Northmor graduate Cade Miracle will join the Marietta College track and field team, where he will compete in the pole vault.

After a strong high school track and field career that saw him reach the state meet once and reach the podium at regionals three times in the pole vault, Northmor graduate Cade Miracle will continue to compete in that event at Marietta College.

Miracle said that the main reason he chose Marietta had to do with his chosen major.

“Mostly their petroleum engineering program,” he said. “They’re the top in the country and they’re probably one of the only colleges in the state that has petroleum engineering and also, it’s just a really nice field to go into. Petroleum engineers, they travel around a lot and I figured I’d like to do that.”

While on the Marietta track and field team, Miracle expects his focus to remain on the pole vault — something he’s looking forward to.

“Mostly just pole vault, but I’m going to have a lot of fun doing pole vault,” he said.

In order to compete on the varsity level for Marietta, Miracle knows he’ll have to continue improving his height in that event.

“I’m simply going to need to vault higher,” he said. “Probably a foot higher than I do now, but I have faith that my coach can do that.”

He explained that there are multiple factors involved in being able to add height in that event.

“It’s a lot about, a, how fast you can run; b, which pole you can get off and the most important thing is your technique,” he said. “Like how strong your abs are so you swing up there.”

Miracle added that he’s looking forward to what Marietta will provide.

“Very good, I think it will be great,” he said. “I had a group of friends basically already there. I met the pole vaulters. I’ll just have fun talking with people and the campus looks really fun. They have plenty of activities and extra stuff to do.”

When at Marietta, Miracle did say he’d, “Probably going to miss most of my friends here.”
