MONROE, Conn. — The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department is running its Letters to Santa program, offering Community Float Night, a Ski and Snowboard Club, and a youth basketball league, which has a job opening.

For information or to register, call the office at 203-452-2806 or send an email to [email protected]. Flyers for every offering are in the photo gallery at the end of this article.

Letters to Santa

The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department is running its Letters to Santa program from Dec. 1 through Dec. 12. Letters can be mailed or dropping off in a special mailbox out front of Town Hall.

The “elves” in the Parks and Recreation office will make sure the mail makes it to the North Pole, so Santa reads each one and mails back a response to their home.

“It’s important that everyone includes a return address,” Parks and Recreation Director Missy Orosz said. “This is for Monroe resident families only.”

Letters that are mailed should be sent to the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department, 7 Fan Hill Road, Monroe CT 06468.

Those dropping letters off at Monroe Town Hall may do so Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Community Float Night

Community Float Night will be held at the Masuk High School Pool on Friday, Dec. 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Bring your camera to take some photos with Ronnie the Reindeer and Frosty right at the pool.

Have fun swimming, enjoy some games and a cannonball contest off the diving board. Free event, but children must be under adult supervision. Lifeguards will be on duty.

Ski/Snowboard Club

Registration is still ongoing for Parks and Recreation’s Ski/Snowboard Club for Monroe youth currently in grades 6 through 12. Enjoy five Friday nights on the slopes on Mohawk Mountain.

Youth Basketball

“We also are still taking players for our High School youth basketball league for Monroe youth currently in grades 9 through 12,” Orosz said.

Looking for a seasonal job and love basketball? The High School basketball league needs a site coordinator. Fill out an application and submit today. Season starts very soon.
