MOTORSPORTS: Sobotka claims emotional CRSA Sprint win | Sports

Published

on

Zach Sobotka has endured his share of heavy heart break in his time wheeling races in the Northeast. A shop fire decimated the team’s race program in 2022. His first CRSA win was taken away, coming up light on the scale.

But, where there was tragedy, triumph emerged. After the fire in February 2022, the team finished with a win in the Hurricane Harvey event at Brewerton during Super DIRT Week 50 and took third in the Chevy Performance 75 at Oswego Speedway.

And now, he has his CRSA Sprint win back. Sobotka won at Utica-Rome Speedway, claiming his first win in a sprint car. This one stood.

In all, it was a span of over 250 days since Sobotka weighed four pounds light at Utica-Rome in the sprint car.

To win, Sobotka had the unenviable task of holding off a charging Dillon Paddock over the final circuits. His win leaves him the 85th different winner in the CRSA Sprint history.

“Feels good to go through the scales,” Sobotka said in a release from CRSA. “Last year was a little bit of a bummer. I got a lot of modified experience and it was a good, racy track.”

Sobotka was on the front row for the 25-lap feature, racing to a sizable edge over Darryl Ruggles. Sobotka caught the tail of the field only eight circuits in, and he handled slower traffic well for 10 laps while maintaining a three-second advantage. That was wiped out on lap 18. Vince Chicklets spun in the second turn, drawing a yellow flag. Paddock went on a tear on the restart, marching to second from fourth and making a bid for the point. Chicklets went around again before a lap was completed, taking the charge off the board.

Paddock was at it again on the next restart attempt, settling into second. With six to go, Paddock began gaining on Sobotka, taking chunks of time out of his lead. Sobotka was hanging onto a thin advantage on the final lap, defending Paddock’s last-ditch momentum move on the high side.

“I could definitely hear him,” Sobotka said in the release. “I could tell he was on top and I almost went up there, going under the white. I led all 24 laps on the bottom down there, might as well try and get 25.”

Paddock posted his fourth straight podium with second, finishing ahead of Ruggles. Billy VanInwegen was fourth and Bobby Parrow took fifth. Paddock won the dash.

Sobotka has now won in a big block modified, a 305 sprint and a sportsman modified.

He won a modified feature in June of last year at Land of Legends Raceway.

His sportsman resume is even more remarkable. He has two wins in the Hurricane Harvey. He won the Industrial Tire Sportsman Shootout, leading all 50 laps of the Outlaw 200 Sportsman event in 2022. He won the Central Region points series in 2024.

He ranked in the top three in overall DIRTcar Sportsman Series points in 2024, ‘23, ‘22 and ‘21. In that stretch, he amassed 12 wins. Sobotka was the 2023 Brewerton Track Champion and a nine time winner at the oval. He has won the last three Sportsman crowns at Land of Legends Raceway, and has won 12 features since June of 2020.

His 2021 season was the most poignant. He finished as the overall points runner-up. His seven wins ranked second among drivers following the tour. He was third in the Mr. Sportsman Modified Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship. And that year, he was the NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week champion in the sportsman division. He won early 2022, taking February’s South of the Border Showdown at Lake View (SC) Motor Speedway before the fire forced the team to reset for 2022.

The series will head to Fulton on June 21. For more, visit CRSASprints.com.

At Oswego, Otto Sitterly won the 60-lap, $5,022-to-win Jim Shampine Memorial. The night was also renamed the Battle For Bruce, with many drivers and supporters holding No. 22 signage and signs. Bruce had a throttle malfunction, and struck the turn 1 foam and wall turning practice laps Friday.

Tim Fuller raced to fourth after 25-laps of work, and Andrew Howard was fifth. Tyler Stevenson took the Sportsman division checkers, winning the 20-lap feature over Gavin Eisele and Eric Neir. Richard Murtaugh and Mike Fowler were credited with top fives. Andrew Hennessy was triumphant in the 20-lap Crate Sprint feature, topping Bruno Richard and Ken Klinkowski. Corey Valade won the Thundercar feature, taking the 15-lap feature from fifth on the grid. Caleb Howard won the 12-lap Limited Sportsman feature.

At Brewerton Speedway, Matt Caprara won the feature, becoming the fourth different winner in the Modified division this year. Darren Smith was next, with Chris Hile, Larry Wight and Alan Fink filling the top five after 35-laps of racing. Joe Isabell (Mod Lites) and Zak Petrie (Four Cylinder Super Stocks) took division victories.

Last week, Chris Hulsizer’s win was overturned due to a rule infraction related to suspension components, and the Modified win was awarded to Nick Root.

Stewart Friesen won the Modified feature at Utica-Rome Speedway. Alex Yankowski was next, taking second in the 30-lap affair. Friesen had started 11th and beat Yankowski to the front; Justin Wright was third ahead of Willy Decker and Matt Sheppard. Jeremy Slosek claimed the 25-lap Sportsman feature over Mike Richmond; Slosek started outside the front row. Payton Talbot was third ahead of Connor Prokop and Josh Amodio. Luke Horning delivered a popular Pro Stock win in the 20-lap main; Horning stormed to the lead from eighth on the initial grid, leaving Devon Camenga to second. Bret Belden, AJ Walters and Shane Playford filled the top five. Sullivan Dickey won the Limited Sportsman 8-lap feature. Jeff Connolly took the four-cylinder feature, holding off Joseph Bouck in the 15-lap main.

Wednesday, Mat Williamson won the 358-Modified Challenge event at Utica-Rome Speedway. That event was shuffled to last Wednesday after weather wrought havoc on Utica-Rome’s schedule. Williamson won the 30-lap feature over Payton Talbot and Matt Janczuk. Jayden Wust took the Limited Sportsman checkers and Corey Valade won the four-cylinder feature in a DOHC entry while Wayne Russell Jr. was credited as the winner of the SOHC division.

The Lamborghini Diablo

The Lamborghini Diablo featured class will celebrate the “poster car” of the 1990s. Lamborghini’s first model capable of exceeding 200 mph and a former holder of the world’s fastest production car title, the Diablo stands as an icon of futuristic design and breakthrough engineering, solidifying Lamborghini’s standing as a trailblazer in modern supercar performance, event organizers said. The class will include Diablo examples, highlighting rare specifications and limited-production editions.

Business Leader and Former NASCAR Team Marketing Executive Tony Priscaro Releases His New Book Still Standing, A Real-World Guide to Building Credibility When the Stakes Are High – Speedway Digest

Published

on

Tony Priscaro, founder of PK Velocity Sports & Entertainment and a veteran sports marketing executive, has released his debut book, Still Standing, now available on Amazon and Kindle. The book delivers a candid, practical look at leadership, resilience, and value creation drawn from decades operating at the intersection of professional sports and business.

Unlike traditional business books rooted in theory, Still Standing is built on real-world execution—closing high-stakes deals, navigating career pivots, managing risk, and rebuilding momentum when circumstances collapse.

“This isn’t a book about success,” said Priscaro. “It’s about what happens between success—the pressure, the setbacks, the moments where quitting feels logical but staying the course matters most.”

Priscaro’s career spans professional sports marketing, NASCAR sponsorship strategy, corporate partnerships, and brand development. In Still Standing, he translates lessons learned in high-pressure sports environments into actionable insights for business leaders, entrepreneurs, and sales professionals.

“In sports, there’s no room for excuses,” Priscaro said. “You either deliver or you don’t. That same reality exists in business—especially when trust, reputation, and credibility are on the line.”

A Business Book Disguised as a Story

While the book draws on experiences from NASCAR, professional basketball, and national brand partnerships, Still Standing is ultimately about business fundamentals: decision-making under uncertainty, earning trust without credentials, and creating value when resources are limited.

“Brands don’t care where you went to school,” Priscaro noted. “They care if you can reduce risk, execute consistently, and deliver results. That lesson applies to every industry.”

The book has already begun resonating with professionals navigating career transitions, leadership challenges, and entrepreneurial risk.

Supporting Speaking & Executive Engagements

The release of Still Standing coincides with Priscaro’s expanded focus on executive speaking engagements and business workshops. His talks center on leadership under pressure, credibility over credentials, and what professional sports reveal about how decisions are really made in business.

“I didn’t write this book to sell books,” said Priscaro. “I wrote it to start conversations—with leaders, teams, and organizations that want to perform when the stakes are real.”
