MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team heads to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for NCAA Super Regionals to take on No. 6 LSU. The best-of-three series gets started on Saturday, June 7, at 2 p.m. ET, followed by Sunday, June 8, at 6 p.m. ET. Game three will be on Monday, June 9, if necessary.
Game one will air on ESPN while game two will be on ESPN2 with Dave Neal and Ben McDonald on the call. It can also be heard on the Mountaineers Sports Network with Andrew Caridi and Jake Weghorst on all radio affiliates as well as the Varsity Network, WVU Gameday App, and WVUSports.com.
The Mountaineers earned their spot in the Super Regionals by going 3-0 in the Clemson Regional this past weekend. West Virginia opened with a 4-3 win against Kentucky on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Armani Guzman. The Mountaineers followed that with a 9-6 win over Clemson, scoring four runs in the ninth inning. In the regional final, WVU scored six runs in the eighth inning to win 13-12 over the Wildcats.
Guzman was named the Regional MVP after going 8-for-12 with six RBI. Senior Brodie Kresser, junior Logan Sauve, and redshirt senior Griffin Kirn all joined him on the All-Tournament Team.
The Mountaineers enter the Super Regional with a 44-14 overall record and sat atop the Big 12 standings with a 19-9 mark, winning their second Big 12 title in three years and first outright championship. It is the second Super Regional appearance in program history and first under first-year head coach Steve Sabins. It is the second consecutive Super Regional appearance after playing in Chapel Hill in 2024.
Suave and Kirn were both named to the All-Big 12 first team while senior outfielder Kyle West and graduate pitcher Jack Kartsonas earned spots on the second team. Gavin Kelly was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team while four others – sophomore Chase Meyer, senior Reese Bassinger, junior Sam White, and senior Jace Rinehart – all earned honorable mention status.
White leads the Mountaineers with a .352 batting average, West leads with10 home runs, and Rinehart has a team-high 51 RBI and 21 doubles. West is also hitting .347 with 15 doubles and 36 RBI.
On the mound, Kirn leads the team with 100 strikeouts in 95.0 innings to go along with a 5-2 record, a 3.13 ERA and one save which he picked up in the regional championship game against Kentucky. Kartsonas is 6-3 with a 2.94 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 64.1 innings. Bassinger has been the top reliever for WVU with a 7-1 record, 4.28 ERA, and 43 strikeouts in a team-high 29 appearances.

LSU enters the Super Regional with a 46-15 overall record after winning the Baton Rouge Regional last week, defeating Little Rock, Dallas Baptist, and Little Rock again. Unlike WVU, the Tigers dropped the first championship game against the Trojans before rallying for a win over Little Rock on Monday night.
The Tigers are the No. 6 overall seed and are led by head coach Jay Johnson in his fourth year. Johnson and the Bayou Bengals won the national title in 2023, the seventh in program history.
Kade Anderson and Athony Eyanson lead a pitching staff that holds a 3.73 ERA, seventh best in the nation. Anderson leads the team with 156 strikeouts in 96.0 innings while Eyanson has 135 strikeouts in 93.2 innings.
Ethan Frey leads the team with a .359 batting average while Jared Jones has 20 home runs and 69 RBI. Derek Curiel has been one of the top freshmen in the country with a .341 batting average, six home runs, 47 RBI, and a team-high 18 doubles.
The winner of this weekend’s series will advance to the Men’s College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. The 78th MCWS gets started on Friday, June 13.

In this week’s TV edition of Murray’s Mailbag, presented by Laub and Laub, we are answering the following questions:
@JOHNWMACKAY1908: Do you have any predictions for how the TV contracts are going to shakeout for the MWC/ Pac-7? It appears to me the continuous delays are because the Pac-7 cannot generate enough $ to justify the cost of those schools leaving the MWC and the Pac refuses to accept that reality.
@ANVILIGENT75408: With the GSR Arena and indoor practice facility about to break ground this summer, what do you think will be the next major facility investment for Nevada?
@BONITAVISTA1971: Some coaches and sports “insiders” are saying the House/NCAA settlement guarantees the FCS teams will now just be feeders for the Power Four teams Well, at least we can rely on NIL Go to enforce the “reasonability” of payments from donors.
@JTFROMNV99: How do other teams besides the football team use the newly approved field house? It seems like a project mainly for football, based on the gridiron and turf used in most of them at other schools.
@FAKECOACHMUMME: We’re coming up at the end of another Nevada athletics fiscal year; who has more Wolf Pack Points this year — the Caranos or Alex Mereulo?

Initiative unlocks new royalty-based income stream and expands platform utility for brands and users alike
NEW YORK, June 17, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Brag House Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: TBH) (“Brag House” or the “Company”), the media-tech platform at the intersection of gaming, college sports, and Gen Z engagement, last week unveiled plans to launch a secure digital asset platform as part of its Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) initiative supporting the Company’s broader monetization strategy by introducing new revenue streams, expanding Gen Z engagement, and strengthening its data-driven value proposition.
Building on its earlier announcement to explore digital NIL engagement models, the initiative leverages Brag House’s national footprint across 200+ NCAA campuses through its partnership with Learfield, enabling student-athletes to monetize personalized digital assets such as highlight reels, game-day passes, and authenticated collectibles. Brag House will retain transaction fees and recurring royalty revenue from secondary marketplace activity, while also capturing valuable user engagement and behavioral data.
“We’re laying the groundwork for a new digital economy built around Gen Z athletes and fans, ” said Lavell Juan Malloy II, CEO and Co-Founder of Brag House. “By combining NIL rights with authenticated digital assets, we’re offering scalable monetization while enhancing our ability to understand and serve our community. This platform introduces a repeatable, high-margin business model aligned with the surging NIL and digital ownership economies.”
Unlocking a Multi-Billion-Dollar Market Through a Scalable Revenue Model
As referenced in Brag House’s previous announcement, the NIL market is projected to grow to $1.5 billion by 2027. Brag House’s NIL platform targets a key gap in the market: 95% of NCAA athletes currently receive little to no NIL compensation.
Using a no-code interface, athletes will be able to mint and sell digital assets directly to fans while Brag House earns transaction fees on all primary sales and royalties on secondary trades. Fan-to-athlete commerce will be enabled by automated smart contract systems, with automated payments routed to athlete-controlled digital wallets. The Company is evaluating sustainable, next-gen digital platforms that offer low fees and reliable verification systems.
Initial monetization scenarios include:
- Personalized collectibles with resale royalties
- Digital access passes for live/virtual events
- Loyalty integrations with brand partners and sponsors
- Tiered fan experiences that reward long-term participation
Accelerating Brag House’s Strategic Flywheel
This platform aligns directly with Brag House’s four-phase strategic roadmap: build Gen Z community, scale B2B solutions, monetize engagement, and activate proprietary data. The NIL initiative further supports each of these goals by:
- Increasing user retention through exclusive athlete-fan interaction
- Creating brand sponsorship inventory around collectible campaigns
- Enhancing the Company’s first-party behavioral data for Gen Z
- Enabling subscription and membership cross-sell opportunities
“This initiative is not about chasing trends, it’s about capturing value,” added Malloy. “We’ve already proven our ability to engage Gen Z across gaming and college campuses. Now, we’re unlocking the next layer of monetization that expands our platform’s economic potential.”
Pilot Rollout in Late 2025
Brag House expects to launch initial NIL activations on select campuses later this year, in conjunction with branded loyalty campaigns and its Brag Gators Gauntlet Series. Full platform capabilities, including smart contract integration, athlete onboarding, and fan resale features, are anticipated to go live in early 2026.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia didn’t hold back during an appearance on FanDuel’s “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast, sending a clear message to in-state rival Tennessee.
“Vanderbilt is going to run Tennessee after this year,” Pavia said. “This is gonna be the new staple of college football. It’s going to happen here at Vanderbilt.”
Pavia also spoke candidly about recruiting and the Commodores’ potential as a powerhouse in the new era of college football, emphasizing the appeal of Nashville and the strength of Vanderbilt’s NIL resources.
“Everyone wants to come to [the state] because of Nashville. So, they want to come to Nashville, so—Vanderbilt. And then, when we have the most money in NIL, why not come here? We literally just have to win this year, and throughout the rest of the year it’ll take care of itself.”
Pavia, a transfer from New Mexico State, turned heads in his first season at Vanderbilt. He threw for 2,293 yards and 20 touchdowns, completing 59.4% of his passes, and added another 800 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns on the ground.

Marcus Freeman thinks he knows how to fix College Football’s coaching crisis

Over the past several years, there has been a massive exodus of elite coaches as some of the best coaches at the College level have either stepped away from the game or moved to different roles in the NFL. Whether it has been coaches like Nick Saban retiring, Head Coaches moving to the NFL like Jim Harbaugh, or a coach like Jeff Hafley leaving a Head Coaching gig to become an NFL coordinator, the game has been stripped of it’s talent.
The biggest reason for the loss of elite level talent has been some of the recent changes to the College Football landscape. As NIL and the Transfer Portal have made it even more demanding on coaches, many have pointed to the added issues coaches need to deal with as a reason for the departures.
Marcus Freeman appeared on The Joel Klatt Show, where he gave his pitch to how College Football could start to make the sport more appealing to the coaches.
“We’ve gotta create some type of balance for those coaches and I think we are. I see us trending from my first year to now my fourth year in a direction that is trying to create some type of balance for assistant coaches, and that’s important.”
Marcus Freeman
The overall point that Marcus Freeman is making makes a ton of sense as the day to day roles these coaches, especially assistant coaches have are truly overwhelming. Where College Football needs to adapt is by simply creating more breaks in the yearly calendar to create more periods where coaches can get the balance that NFL coaches are given.
The main area where the game can shift is by creating more dead periods or longer dead periods in the recruiting calendar. During the season, coaches are still working extra hours keeping in contact with recruits which adds to the job. Once the season ends, the true season for assistants starts as they travel around the Country pitching their program to recruits.
The other area where College could look to cut down on activity is by moving from two transfer portal windows to one transfer window. The second transfer window creates another period where coaches could be on break but, they’re instead recruiting their own players once preventing departures while also looking to add to the roster.
As the College game continues to shift in a way that benefits the athletes, the coaches will need to become the next group that reaps some benefits.

Make a Gift | Invest in NIL | Purchase Tickets
We stand at a pivotal point in the history of college athletics — a time marked by seismic shift, unparalleled opportunity, and daunting challenges. In the last several years, we have witnessed the meteoric rise of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), the evolution of the transfer portal, and, most recently, the game-changing House/NCAA settlement. These narratives are not headlines; they are a foundational redefinition of what it means to be a student-athlete and a member of a university athletic program.
Make no mistake: change is imminent — and more is coming.
The House settlement, emerging from the consolidation of major antitrust cases against the NCAA and Power Four conferences, is poised to introduce direct revenue sharing with student-athletes in the 2025-26 academic year. This shift will reshape Eastern Michigan University Athletics, the Mid-American Conference, and the national college sports arena.
We believe that it is correct to confront this reality with sincerity, resolve, and compassion. In all honesty, this is a moment of definition — a moment that will test our will and our creativity. And in every test, there is opportunity.
We are ready to lead, and we invite the entire EMU family to join us:
• Stand behind our student-athletes with the Eastern Athletic Fund.
• Invest in NIL opportunities that benefit our university and our student-athletes.
• Attend games, buy tickets, and spread the word — your presence matters!
While this new reality may prove difficult, it also provides an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to EMU, our student-athletes, and our storied legacy of excellence.
In this emerging world, I commit to keeping you informed and to working together actively to forge this evolving and revolutionary journey. Rest assured that Eastern Michigan Athletics is strong, together, and committed.
Thank you for your unwavering support,
Scott Wetherbee
